Burning taxi spotted in Bedok
Shin Min Daily News - 17 hrs 40 mins ago
A taxi was spotted burning yesterday evening at about 6.30pm at an open air carpark located at Blk 507, Bedok North Ave 3.
The fire is suspected to have spread to the taxi when offerings were burned right under the boot of the taxi. Some suspect that this is a prank.
The burning of offerings is a common practice during the lunar seventh month, which ended yesterday.
At least one passerby tried to put out the fire but to no avail. In less than three minutes, the fire spread to the rear of the taxi and caused a series of small explosions.
Fire fighters arrived in five minutes but the fire took a while to be completely extinguished.
The affected taxi driver is a Chinese man in his 40s. He told reporters that he had finished his shift and had brought his wife and children to have dinner in the area.
"I parked my taxi at the carpark and went to have dinner with my family at the market across the road. There was nothing out of the ordinary at that time," he said.
