A FULL-TIME national serviceman, who had consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl two years ago, was jailed for two weeks yesterday.
Keivin Liwan Wai Yin was 19 at the time of the offence in 2009.
Investigations showed that he got acquainted with the girl in June 2009 through an online game called Audition. They started chatting online.
Some time between June 1 and Oct 31 in 2009, he asked the Secondary 4 student to go to his home to play computer games.
She agreed. After engaging in the cyber activities in the living room, he went to the bedroom to rest. She joined him on the bed and they had consensual sex. Shortly after, she initiated a break-up and they stopped contacting each other.
In February last year, she found out that she was pregnant and lodged a police report.
The court heard that she had a miscarriage and a DNA profiling showed that Liwan, now 21, was not the biological father of the foetus.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Edmund Lam told District Judge Ronald Gwee that Liwan had been placed on nine months’ probation for a similar offence in 2008, and a jail sentence would be appropriate.
The maximum penalty for carnal connection is five years’ jail and a $10,000 fine.
