A PRC lady working in Singapore has written to the Temasek Review Emeritus (TRE) requesting assistance in exposing an attempt by Resort World Sentosa (RWS) to cover-up a case of sexual haressment of her fellow PRC friend who was working there.
XiaoQin (not her real name) informed TRE that although she had earlier advised her friend Mimi to lodge a police report, Mimi the victim had refused to do so as she was afraid of losing her job and being sent back (to China). It was then that a friend of theirs who can read simple english encouraged XiaoQin to approach TRE for assistance.
* XiaoQin subsequently wrote to TRE in a mix of chinese and simple english with all correspondence thereon between her and TRE in chinese and crudely translated to english for the purpose of this article.
According to XiaoQin, Mimi is working for a cleaning contractor of RWS, Weishen Industrial Services Pte Ltd (WIS), which appears to be set up by a Chinese company headquartered in Huizhou [Link].
BCA directory [Link] listed WIS to be located at Toh Guan Road and in the business of providing various kinds of cleaning and maintenance services.
The Allegations
Mimi was allegedly molested by a RWS supervisor, another PRC named Bruce ShengJun, while performing her cleaning duty at RWS. She was “touched” and “prez hard below” by the male RWS supervisor. He also kissed or tried to kiss her. The supervisor was said to be from the Environmental Service and Maintenance department (EMS) of RWS.
When the incident happened, she was frightened and cried. She then called her WIS manager for help. The supervisor was later caught and after admitting to “want to touch” the girl’s “sex part”, his service was terminated and he was sent back to China immediately.
The RWS departmental head of EMS, a lady, then asked Mimi to write a letter, promising to drop the case and not to speak to anyone else about it since the male supervisor had already been fired. Mimi agreed because she was worried that if she did not comply, the EMS lady boss might change the cleaning contractor which meant Mimi would lose her job if WIS no longer had the contract. Mimi was happy to continue to work at RWS.
However, the lady boss, apparently, wasn’t too keen to see Mimi continue working at RWS because she feared that Mimi might tell others about the incident. Hence, the lady boss told WIS to arrange for Mimi to work somewhere else. The new workplace that Mimi was sent to is quite far from her rented place and besides, she likes to work at RWS. She felt that she was unfairly treated even though she was the victim and was not at fault.
Expressing disgust at the treatment of her friend, XiaoQin said (sic), “She is no wrong but she is suffer result, unfair. Because she is china woman so can bully. RWS woman boss is woman but why no support poor china girl by sex bully? Why RWS like this bully people? I very angry”.
