Its pretty obvious most are here for short-term gains. LKY has said time and again its alright for them to do so. 3-4 years of "contributing" to the Singapore society is enough for him.

Notice the last option chosen by 11% - "None of the above. We have only ourselves to blame for low birth rate". Since when should a person be criticized for not having more kids? This is personal choice. Singapore democratic society? Yeah right!

My many conversation with friends in Singapore is not that Singaporeans do not want babies, but that it is just too expensive to have them. The government is givin monetary incentive and doing a bad job at it. I think PAP realised quickly it is cheaper to just import FTs to prop up the growth rather then wait for the birthrate to increase.

cb, none of the above. why dun have all the above?

We rather have a higher standard of living by having fewer kids, than having a truckload of children and buying things from Courts or Harvey Norman on instalments! :D

I'm willing to bet the majority of the pple who complain about them being here for short term is also the same pple who condemn them when they take up citizenship, their sons go through NS, etc etc. Hypocrites talking

I have a serious problem with leeches who are here just for leeching off our resources. Which is why I have a lot of issues with PRs. If they are unwilling to make the commitment and convert to citizenship, it's more then enough proof that they are here for the short term. We should revoke all benefits and only give them the permanent residential status to allow them to work. Too much of our resources are given to PR which can be better used for citizens

That's just an excuse. All my friends said the same thing at first but when they moved up in society and get more money the excuse change to too troublesome. At the end of the day, most of us just don't want our lifestyle to change and make the sacrifice to have more children

Errr... the main benefit PRs and other FTs enjoy ==> benefit of working in SG and earning income. I don't think there is a lot of other benefit to talk about.
The poll is badly designed. The most appropriate option would be "indiscrimate and uncontrolled admission of FT to Singapore".

Indeed, don't forget that for many people Singapore has become too stressful to work as well. A lot of babies are made when they are away for holidays.

Just let these Indian PR goes to find an international school on their own. The fees for such school in VERY EXPENSIVE. This is one of the area i think PR must withdraw from public school. Then they will know how priceless all these resources are... instead of just leeching from Singapore.

luckily fat ass aka char_azn no chance to spread his fat/oily gene pool around. :D he cannot find any woman stupid, blind, tasteless enough to marry him. :D

Over the weekend, I boarded a fairly crowded mrt train.
The moment I went in, could smell the stench of curry. Happened that I was standing next to a seated Indian FT who had just yawned. His wife and daughter were seated beside him, the daughter fidgeting.
The son was running about in the cabin, despite it being crowded.
The father simply kept yawning and letting out curry smell.
The mother just sat there while the daughter kept fidgeting and the son kept running about.

That's why.

Citizen benefits vs PRs. They also have a lot of subsidized item just not as much as citizen. I want to see it taken away entirely and redistributed to citizens

Agree, there shouldn't be any subsidy to PR. They should pay for everything at market rate. There's also a loophole whereby a PR can buy new HDB flat at subdized price. That is, by way of marriage to a citizen spouse, but him/herself doesn't and needn't have to convert to citizen. A lien should be imposed on such cases. In case of sale or divorce, the subsidy on the PR half of ownership should be deducted from the sale proceeds.

Personally I think something more drastic should be implemented. The Employer's Share of the CPF should be converted into a levy and redistributed to the locals instead.

Higher taxes should be imposed on companies which hire foreigners

The answer is simple - No one wants his home to be broken into, things stolen and still the act is deemed legal by the MIW. Best of all, old man told us to accept it!
