TWO Filipino nationals were charged in court on Friday with attempted armed robbery at a Burger King fast-food restaurant.

Charlie Cabo Perez, 32, and Gerald Christian Magsalubong Porte, 29, are alleged to have tried to rob $19,221 at the outlet in International Plaza, Anson Road, at knifepoint on Wednesday.

If convicted, each can be jailed between five and 20 years plus at least 12 strokes of the cane.

What make you think employees would be so willing to fight robbers for the company's money? I think even the owners of business will not defend their own money with their lives.

If it is Chiam See Tong's shop, I will fight. If it is PAP dog's shop, I will provide Pinoy with his home address and daily movement schedule. :D

SINGAPORE: A waiter's last-minute decision to back out of an armed robbery at a Burger King outlet saved him from a heavier punishment.

But for having a bread knife near the scene of the crime, Filipino waiter Porte Gerald Christian Magsalubong, 30, was on Friday sentenced to five months' jail.

Magsalubong had hatched a plan with his flat mate, Charlie Cabo Perez, 32, also a Filipino, to commit armed robbery at International Plaza's Burger King outlet on June 8.

But shortly after the pair entered the building at Anson Road, Magsalubong had cold feet and left.

Perez went ahead with their plan. He was later caught and convicted in July of offences including armed robbery and criminal breach of trust. The former Burger King assistant manager was jailed five years and given 24 strokes of the cane.

Magsalubong could have met a similar fate if his initial attempted armed robbery charge had not been reduced to one of weapon possession.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kumaresan Gohulabalan said the pair entered a locker room beside the fast food restaurant at around 7.00am that day and Perez put on a surgical mask to disguise himself.

Magsalubong's lawyer, Sunil Sudheesan, told the court his client tried to persuade Perez to do likewise but failed.
