How to save this forum?

We all realise the socio-political cyberspace landscape is changing in Singapore. If anyone's been reading some of the stuff youngsters are posting on our MPs' FB walls, he'd agree.

The forum was never meant to be political. It was never my intention. By some freak of nature, the inaugural bunch of members [delphi days] turned it into an "opposition" forum.;)

Times have changed and there are many outlets for political debate on the net. Why curse a minister here when he can be bombarded directly on facebook.

Opposition? More like a bunch of misfits gathering together to complain about the shitty things in life. This is something that few forums can do....accumulate so many whiners under one roof.

The founding members weren't misfits. Those came later.

Actually Sam you created the opposition's favourite site by default. In 1999, after the first few postings and no deletion took place despite serious allegations against the PAP, it became a magnet. Fame but not fortune followed. The press was in this forum in double quick time and they used to quote quite frequently and even Seah Chiang Nee joined in. I am sure you recall that Eric Ellis chasing you down and not to mention the interview with SPH. The other political sites fell by the wayside.

Your ability to provide cover has also been appreciated. I do not for a moment take it for granted the effort and guile involved in batting away all the queries for disclosure and take-downs.

Lets face it even TR has been plagiarizing from this forum even until last week.

TR blatantly used this forum to build up their readership without ever expressing any form of gratitude whatsoever.

While they took full advantage of the lack of censorship while promoting their site, they made frequent requests to remove posts that were critical of TR. I duly pointed out the "ignore" feature. You can't have your cake and eat it too.:p

Well said. I don't think these guys realise the depth and quality of discussions that were involved. Bkworm, RandomNexus, Zenra, Bellepepper, Bohchap, Bhoven, Rover, etc and many many more. Sorry that I missed out on many more but we are talking about serious quality and first rate information. And all of them I have offended via my style of abrasive and over-top remarks. But the fact is quality and first rate info came from this lot. Even now we are getting some quality people.

I know that Ramseth initiated F4 war took a terrible toll and many fell away and it took a while to fix. Hopefully we can get back on track and focused folder might be the answer.

The founding members weren't misfits. Those came later.

I feel the zapping of points has to go. I suggest allowing more responsible members to have infraction power instead.

Infraction power is awarded based on rep scores. If I remove the feature, how is the community going to award infraction power?

I am not asking for the full removal of the rep points system, but the zap (minus) part is really redundant. And instead, maybe you can lower the minimum rep points for infraction to 450. Just a suggestion.

Zaps are required to remove infraction power from those who abuse it.

At the end of the day, the feature is just a bit of fun.

This place is full of racist Chinese Local Trash who cannot compete with FTrash, let alone FTalent

Remove these losers and this forum will flourish

then why the heck you still here ?

by the way, you from which country..................just curious...................

Inputs of all kinds should be welcomed. Otherwise there is no representation of the entire population.

We wouldn't appreciate wisdom if it's not seen in stark contrast.

Zap or no zap probably requires some form of moderation. Once it goes awry, you'll have chaos ... depends on how they handle the responsibility of holding power.

Hmmm so TR started from this very forum ?

It does not turn out that way. The way I see it is more of causing an atmosphere where you cannot have different views without getting 'fixed'. I am fine if someone openly disagrees with me or curse me openly, but zapping is a cowardly move.

U are right. Zapping is a corwardly move. Infraction is better. U shud try it sometime.

This place (along with soc.culture.singapore) is the grandfather of all existing political discussion websites. If you map out relationships of the popular sites today like TOC, TR, Mr brown and the party websites, they all connect to SBF directly or indirectly.

I can say that possibly quite a few are being influenced to vote the right way based on biased information from opposition supporters here. This place is like the total opposite of the prostitute press.
