It is amazing that the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) is dismissing the incident as a mere 'hiccup'. Will be the same treatment be accorded to private firms which cause blockages on the roads with their lorries?
The fact remains that the transport of aircraft is not a rare occurrence along the Tampines Expressway (TPE), so why the apparent neglect of the safety of other road users. The problem was compounded by the fact that productivity time was lost due to what was clearly an avoidable incident. It is sad that the proper attitude to work was not put in place and sadder still that no responsible apology was offered. We have CAAS, the airplane owner, the transport agency and escorted security personnel, yet no one appears to have sized up the possible problem.
=> "Collective leadership" = No leadership
The Land Transport Authority or Traffic Police must take appropriate enforcement action against the culprits to show transparency in the enforcement of the law against those who create a nuisance or mischief on our roads.
One caption in the report described the plane as 'blocked by a pedestrian bridge'. The bridge has been there for a long time. We all know it, so pray tell me who had plainly forgotten about it.
Let's not treat wastage of productivity time, during this so-called 'technical recession', as a hiccup to be expected. It is this kind of attitude that will cause our economy to 'nose-dive'.
