Mah's thoughts on housing a nation
By Joanne Chan | Posted: 22 March 2011 1610 hrs
SINGAPORE: A book featuring nine articles on Singapore's public housing programme was launched on Tuesday.
The book, titled "Reflections on Housing a Nation", compiles significant commentaries by Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan. It articulates Mr Mah's thoughts on public housing in Singapore, a responsibility he has held since 1999.
Topics in the book include the rationale, principles and considerations behind important public housing issues, such as flat supply, flat pricing, and options for home buyers.
The articles were written in commemoration of HDB's 50th anniversary and were first published in MediaCorp's TODAY newspaper between September and December last year.
Mr Mah said he decided to compile his commentaries into a book after receiving various requests.
He hopes to reach out to more Singaporeans and tell them about Singapore's ongoing housing story, and to enhance their understanding of the policy considerations.
8,000 copies of the book, in both English and Chinese, were printed.
1,000 copies will be available for sale at S$10 each.
The rest will be distributed free over the next few weeks to HDB branch offices, town councils, public libraries, resource centres, government agencies and educational institutions.
An online version of the book is also available at the National Development Ministry's website.
