Soccer kelong existed at least 35 yrs ago. Even the 70s M'sia Cup matches also kelong. I know coz an ex-national player told me that. He was in the team then. While highly competitive on the field, they are all in cahoots with state teams.

Look at the World Cup, same thing happened. Kelong will always be around.

Not only for soccer. Snooker also involved. So, I am not surprised sumo wrestling included.

There is no reason to fear kelong when you bet. Remember, the bookie allows you to choose first. No one can forced you to take any team. End of it all, it is down to luck. Don't believe the keu sin sehs.

bro, dragon,huat huat huat ah!!!

when games are played and handled by humans, it is very possible that kelong will occur. we humans are very complicated beings, we can manipulate a lot of things. furthermore, in sports like soccer, when you see players running up and down, it's very difficult to catch their expressions on tv whether they are faking...
and when one is exhausted in sports, the mind is in a state of releasing some kind of chemicals and thus very difficult to judge, all you can see is their fatigue look.

Yes, when have quick money, kelong will always snake its way in. When the first lights first went off in an EPL match, my buddy told me before the game to bet that lights would go off. I told myself not possible. Knna, true enough, lights off. A M'sian was implicated. I think he went to jail.

thanks! lights from where???:confused::confused:

Stadium floodlights went off when score was favourable to the bookies. Now it is different. If lights out, bets all void.

That's why we should never tear up the betting slips before the final whistle is blown.
Even if you bet on matches with halftime score involved, the match could be abandoned after 85 minutes and the bet declared void. :o :D

can they still be accused of kelong if they are paid to work extra hard?

i remember last time got some soccer player who were suspected of match-fixing, but the charges were that they were "paid to win".

but isn't that the norm in soccer manager to give their players a win bonus of some sort?

Yes, it's still kelong.
Win bonuses should be paid by the club and apply to all players or based on their contracts.
"External" money paid to players is always kelong, whether to win or lose or score goals or let in goals.

Abbas Saad's case. Yes, very strange to get charged for winning. Never heard before. If it was to control the winning score, then that's a separate matter altogether.

My hunch is that there was a compromise, a bargain made - Abbas to plead guilty and the outcome to be lenient (no request for deterrent sentence from prosecution). It wasn't a normal 'kelong' case, that's for sure. Maybe it was to damage control the whole fiasco whereby more players could be involved, including players from M'sian states.

What if the extra cash comes from sponsors and not stated in their contract?

There was a similar case involving a jockey who won his race and was rewarded? Cannot recall the full facts of case but I think he was acquitted.

Can anyone assist here? Maybe our horse racing experts can.

I'm no horse racing expert but from football, I remember Paolo Rossi of Juventus and Italy. He shot into international superstardom in World Cup 1978 but in 1980, he took a huge "external incentive" for club games, not to "kelong" to throw games but to work extra hard to win games as those external sponsors were bookmakers banking on his club. In fact, Rossi himself placed bet on his own club, not against. But when found out, he was banned from professional and international for four years.

In 1982, Italian national manager Enzo Bearzot appealed for Rossi and succeeded in lifting his ban. They went on to win World Cup 1982 with Rossi also winning top scorer and best player awards. It's reported that Rossi wouldn't have to worry about clothings, shoes and accessories for the rest of his life as many Italian sponsors pledged lifetime free flow free choice supply if he won that World Cup for Italy, and he did. The rest of that World Cup winning team got spillover benefits too, less but enough lucrative enough.

Yes, I remember Rossi. He didn't play too well in the 1st round matches but struck top form from quarter finals onwards. Same for the Italian team who started the tournament showing no potential of being champions.

No idea what the circumstances were leading to his ban but I am aware it was corruption related.

Back home, in the early 70s, Majid Ariff, Mohd Ali, Samad, Rajagopal were also suspended for 'kelong' and ban was also lifted.

Yeah, he was a bit rusty coming back from the ban in the first round. There were Italian mafia calls for him to be shot!

But after the second round when he came alive to bury Argentina, Brazil, Poland and West Germany, the mafia loves him. :D

I love and follow football but I don't bet on football too. Too prone to kelong. I think your baccarat business is the best. Unless blatant card cheating, which I trust casinos won't do, a card dealt is a card dealt.

World Cup final between France and Brazil (2002?) - rumours of Ronaldo's family being kidnapped. Can't recall if he played but if he did, it was a bad game for him. Brazil was favourite giving half, one yet lost by 2 or 3 goals.

Gamblers are strange people. They like to 'bee pai' when we all know there is nothing you can do when the cards are distributed. Whatever style you 'bee', the card won't change. I prefer the face-up tables whereby the cards are opened rightaway. No need to waste time.

"Bee pai" is for the excitement of anticipation, part of the entertainment of gaming. Nobody sane expects the card to change for better luck just because they "bee" it. It's just the excitement step by step unfolding. For example, if you "bee" the top means either Ace or 4, then slowly disclose to enchance the excitement, whether win or lose. If you're hoping for a tenner, a border frame would be best and you'd shout out loud "picture!"

For me, I rather not have excitement step by step (Eddie Rabbit???). Just get it opened and be done with. I am there to win money not derive excitement. Where excitement is concerned, there are many other things to get excited with.

That's one key difference between hard core gamblers and 'workers' like me. I see gambling as a biz. Not for pleasure or excitement. Pleasure and excitement comes when you deal with the opposite sex.

You should get in touch with Senile Sex Mentor (SSM) Equalisation for entertainment and excitement (E&E). :D

i remembered few years ago, i was betting on in-play for 2 italian teams, the odds rose to 5+ for the lousy team, i whipped a $100 on them to win and eventually they did. another thing i noticed is those big teams like ac and inter seldom kelong, watch out for those which hardly made the cut in serie A.:o

uk horse racing is interesting cos' you can back and lay but is difficult to trade cos' of the time running out too soon unless you are superfast in your mouse clicking. football is better cos within 90 minutes, the odds can rise and fall=more time for playing the odds. arbitrage the odds difference, or back high and lay low, to make some coffee money.:o:D
and the 4 seasons there made the horses run in different form, more exciting as outsiders more likely to emerge, especially in winter. i prefer to solely back horses nowadays.:o

my research in sports betting, i conclude when huge sum of money is involved, one better watch out and be careful.
