I'm very disgusted with former 民进党主席施明德

Shih did not mobilise "millions of people" in the protest against Ah Bian.
Taiwan's population is 23 million, how many millions could he have mobilised?
Mobilise 6 million and he would still be the chairman of DPP. 10 million and he would be president.

Reports are that he managed to get about 1 million people to donate to this cause. Doesn't mean that they all support him, many of them just hate Ah Bian.
The red shirt protest movement on the streets was between 100K to 300K depending on whether you believe police reports or protestors' reports.

And it was Shih who decided not to topple Ah Bian by force or with violence.
Of course, Ah Bian, being Ah Bian refused to resign.

I believe in neither hero idolising nor villain hating. E.g. everything SMT must be good and everything CSB must be bad. Politics and even commonsense go much deeper beyond that. However, successful politicians usually rely on masses without much commonsense. Don't be mistaken I'm referring to Uncle Yap, he has some sense and cause that are coherent however much others disagree with. I'm just generalising.

There are millions in Taiwan HK mainland and overseas making donations and gesturing up to support Anti-Corruption and Deposing Ah Bian campaign by Mr 施明德.

However not everyone would be able to turn up at campaign marches or rallies or besiege 总统府. Hundreds of Thousands turned up.

In my blogs I wrote a dozen of articles to support this campaign, but did not got to Taipei Istana. When Red Shirts surrounded Taipei Istana for weeks of stand off it was Sept 2006, I was standing off here at Speakers Cornered. During the rest of that campaign it was GE2006 in Singapore, I was so busy, but I still wrote supportively for Anti-Corrupt Depose Bian Campaign.

Mr. 施明德 got millions of supporters in Taiwan and overseas and he will still enjoy the same support. He is unaffected by narrow thinking of Singaporean standard. He is not contesting election and don't have to worry about what voters think.:)

When he called upon people to topple corrupted Ah Bian millions will come to join him. That is not changed. His level is above any so called politicians in Singapore especially LKy.;)

施明德 is not contesting elections because he can't win.

He last contested Taiwan legislative elections 2004 in Taipei city, he can't even get elected in that multi members constituency ahead of Li Ao.
Today he has no chance to win a plurality constituency election against either a KMT or DPP candidate anywhere in Taiwan.

think a spinoff political party from red shirts protest also contested Taiwan legislative elections 2008 and flopped badly. of course lose - almost all the red shirt protests are KMT supporters. The red shirts leaders really believe they have millions of supporters?

Hey Sideswipe,

Is your avatar the official symbol of 100 years of ROC?
Mind sharing why you love ROC so much? :o

Is that your reason for loving ROC? Past or present? :o

I was suggesting what might be Sideswipe's answer. Me? During Heng Choong Camp? I was fucking miserable thinking about the girl I lost back home.:(

well, I like 中天女主播 a lot... :D

it's mainly because I am a history buff of the Republican Era of China (1911-1949), the despicable ways of the Chinese Communists to attain power back then make me sympathize and support the Chinese Nationalists. :)

Don't bluff, you only like one of them. :D

Thanks for your reply. :)

反贪倒扁 was a cross colored campaign, not green nor blue. People from both sides had joined. Even the green DPP had huge internal arguments about weather to turn directly against their own corrupted president or distance or disassociate with Ah Bian.

Upon admitting his own money laundering Ah Bian & wife both resigned from DPP party and their resignation was accepted. This is known in Taiwan as 切割。aka CUT-OFF.

Ah Bian's rampant corruption is so depressing and disappointing for many loyal green supporters that upon his re-election there were cases that depressed and angered green supporters took suicide and ended their own lives.

谢长廷 the presidential candidate who lost to 马英九 had at the final phase of losing tried to force corrupted 阿扁 to heed to resignation calls in order to save his campaign, since gallop polls indicated clearly that 马英九was going to win, 谢长廷 hoped 阿扁 to resign and turn the poll trend back. corrupt 阿扁 hanged up phone and refused to see 谢长廷.

So the Law in Singapore is based on selective interpretation?

Thanks, bro. That's why I left out 'k' word.

There's one Taiwan politician that I detest more than Ah Bian and that's Frank Hsieh.
At least Ah Bian can sometimes be a little cute in his speech and actions. I can't find any redeeming qualities in Frank at all. :(
