Penang: No. 1 street food haven

The food served at LPS is a disgrace to the name of local food :mad::mad:

Agree absolutely. It was supposed to be a transplant of the Telok Ayer old market, that's why called Lau Pa Sat. Telok Ayer had some of the best standard-bearing stalls in Singapore. The new LPS is sheer disgrace.

That place was known as Orchard Road carpark. Specialist Centre wasn't there then,

don't know about your time, but my time ' Orchard Road Carpark ' already had Specialist Centre, together with Phoenix Hotel

No balls to face the government? The government knows me very, very well. Whether I choose to face them is not your business. Who knows, I may just stand one day -GE. Sylvia Lim is my very good friend. You can check with Ramseth.

I was one of Sylvia's polling agents in the last GE and shall be Glenda's election agent in the next GE. I'm not standing but at least I'm not hiding. :D

I don't recall that. I recall a row of shophouses once stood where Specailist Centre now stands, if it is still called that name. I am old!

I am also not hiding. Told you I want to be Glenda's Deputy Agent and you said cannot. Can I be polling agent for some chios? Plase intro someone to me.

There's no such position as deputy agent. However, you can be polling agent or counting agent. Counting agent is more exciting but you have to last through the wee hours arguing with PAP agents vote by vote.

These positions are not suka-suka can appoint. All have to swear and sign before commissioner of oaths.

This GE surely watershed. No need to argue with PAP agents. From watershed, we make sure it is bloodshed. From arguing, we will now just slash and stab.

Lagi more thanks to you, bro. The complete picture is forming in my head now. I used to reside in that vicinity.

I used to stay at 'sky villa' the place still stands today but someone going to knock them down soon

I just hope the bloodshed is not by some harakiri.

Penang char kway teow is different from Singapore and I've never seen available in Singapore. Penang hay mee is also different, available in Singapore but getting rarer and rarer. Locke tried out a half-baked recipe at GMS flat, messed up the whole place and ended up with something borderline edible for those who were starving but nowhere near palatably sellable. Locke gave up on the project and GMS sold his flat. :p
Penang char kway teow is actually quite common in SG. It's simply SG char kway teow mai hum, lup cheong and dark sweet sauce. :D
Of course, some are more authentic than others and some are not auhentic at all.

Penang hokkien mee soup is quite interesting. Lovers of the SG hokkien mee with the strong soup stock may not like it. The soup is slightly reddish in colour and slightly spicy, with a slight prawn taste. They use yellow noodles and bee hoon, with prawns, kang kong and pork slices.

Actually, Singapore CKT is dark and Penang CKT is light brown.

Penang hay mee is all about the spicy soup. There's no dry version.

All u Penang food lovers shld just go to ladyhill hotel! They serve most of the fav food there...it's a buffet style!!!

2 interesting types of Penang food are the Pasembur and the Lor Bak.
The Pasembur is a little like rojak, consisting of prawn crackers, shredded turnips I think, bean sprouts or towgay, toufu, with a sauce that is quite similar to the indian rojak gravy on top.

The Lor Bak is a little like Ngoh hiang, with pork wrapped around with a thick layer of crispy tou fu skin.

Very nice. :)
