Usher in 2011 at Tiong Bahru Park party
COME Dec 31, a large-scale 'inter-national' countdown party will be held at Tiong Bahru Park.
The party, organised by the Tanjong Pagar GRC, is expected to attract between 15,000 and 20,000 people.
It is the first countdown party here to heavily involve new citizens and permanent residents, the organiser said yesterday.
On that day, there will be performances by foreign acts, including a dance troupe from Myanmar, a ventri-loquist from China, and a Japanese rock-and-roll singer.
Bellini House Band from popular nightclub complex St James Power Station will also perform. The band is made up of six members from Singapore, Britain, the United States and the Philippines.
Explaining the decision to hold such a party, Mr Sam Tan, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, said at a press conference yesterday: 'People who are born and bred in Singapore are our main fighting force. But we need reinforcements in terms of new immigrants.
'Together, we are a strong force to be reckoned with. That is why integration is so important.'
The party is organised by Radin Mas Citizens' Consultative Committee, Tian Fu Club, and the Nepalese Society.
It is supported by the National Integration Council, the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Lianhe Zaobao and Lianhe Wanbao.
The party on New Year's Eve will start at 6pm. Admission is free.
