12-year-old girl dies in PIE accident on Hari Raya Haji

AN ACCIDENT along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Hari Raya Haji has resulted in one death, three casualties and a massive traffic jam (see photos below).

A prime mover was travelling along the PIE towards Tuas when it ran over a road divider and jumped into oncoming traffic from the opposite direction. The accident happened on the Paya Lebar flyover at about 10am Wednesday.


According to a source at the scene of the accident, a "little girl" was flung out of the prime mover through the windscreen upon impact and thrown onto the road.

She did not seem to be wearing a seatbelt at that time, the source said.

Oncoming traffic then ran over the little girl.

A police spokesman said a 12-year-old girl was conveyed to the Changi General Hospital, along with three other casualties. It was not known if they were all occupants of the prime mover.

Unfortunately the girl succumbed to her injuries at about 11am and was pronounced dead, said the police spokesman.

Aftermath

All three lanes on the Paya Lebar flyover were closed and traffic was diverted to the Paya Lebar exit along PIE for a few hours on Wednesday.

The accident had happened around 10am and only one lane on the flyover was reopened by around 12 noon.

A police spokesman told AsiaOne they received a call about a prime mover accident at around 10am.

According to a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman, one female casualty had a left-leg fracture while the other suffered a head abrasion. The male casualty complained of pain in the legs and hips. The deceased had head injuries.

LTA must enforce strong rule that commerical vehicle cannot be use for personal. They are suppose for work. Commercial vehicle COE is for using to commerce for Singapore. Many let worker anyhow drive and congest the roads even after work hours.

Study ?! Perhaps unless a serious accident involving a MIW that they will wake up their freaking idea else nothing will change.

In the early 90s, that stretch to Kallang was so accident prone that it occur almost one every night. Condition got better the last 10 years that lowered the statistic only.

There is nothing wrong with using company vehicle for own personal use. As long as the company allows it. There is no evidence to suggest that only m&ds use company vehicles for their own private use. I got lots of chinese friends in the sales line using company vehicles too.

these commercial trucks and lorries are meant to carry goods and not human beings.
the brakes, horsepower, size etc are all for carrying tons of sand or goods but you see alot of such !diots ferrying their family even when the side of the lorry says only 1 passenger, you see 4-5 people cramp into a cabin. worse with all the diesel pollution
This iDiot driver was probably speeding in a prime mover(without the attached container and these behemoth can easily flatten a car or bus with their massive size and horsepower . they are difficult to control once speeding as they do not have ABS or even airbags and their tires are meant for carrying tons of goods , not speeding. unfortunately an innocent girl died and he has to live with it.
worse if it is some innocent girl or victim in a stationary car on the opposite side of the highway. NOt infrequently I see alot of lorries trucks driven by Banladeshis or indian workers speeding, ferrying their friend on sundays or PH for fun( dressed in holidays clothes). that's why so many of these accidents in Jurong Tuas area involving lorries. I have quite a few close shaves with these cr@p b@stard people as they drive without any concern as it is NOT their property and they think they are still in India or Bangladesh or China. I have complained to LTA many times but they diid not do anything. l

You are right, just like the flooding, until it involves a MIW living in Telok Kurau, got stuck in his car, have to reverse go home, cannot attend a free breakfast, complain, then there was action taken.
