MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew was admitted to the Singapore General Hospital on Wednesday for treatment of a chest infection.

Madam Yeong Yoon Ying, his press secretary, said in a statement on Wednesday night that Mr Lee planned to attend the wake of Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Balaji Sadasivan on Wednesday evening.

Dr Balaji died on Monday of advanced colon cancer.

But Mr Lee was unable go to the wake on Wednesday because 'doctors at SGH have just admitted him for treatment of a chest infection', Madam Yeong said.

Frankly, this is the first time I come across this term 'chest infection'. Obviously they're trying to play down the severity of the illness.
