China latest TV series, 大明宫词 Daming Palace.One of the best i can proudly say so.Just by seeing those Han clothing and the rich culture we Chinese have, really make me proud to be a Chinese.
Hope China can produce more of these kind of television programs in the future!!!

It's the resources. The scenery landscapes, the number of people and horses they have. When left with a province-sized island like Taiwan or a city-sized territority like HK, none of those could be available.

As for the quality of actors, we all have seen it from Romance Of Three Kingdoms, Yongzheng Dynasty etc. PRC has top quality actors second to none especially when acting in history dramas. They don't even speak like modern irritating PRCs we see and hear in Singapore. They not only can act well in their roles and they can speak Chinese in a classical accent soothing to all who understand Chinese.

It goes back to the question why such great resources are required to re-enact Chinese history. Because Chinese history is such so grand.

But it is not often thought of that Chinese literacy were immigrated as the early people, but rather volunteerily brought into Japanese culture to learn from China. Native Japan people are found up North in Hokaido, or south Okinawa. The southern people are mainly thought to be fishermen or pirates during Ming dynasty which give rise to the term "Woh Kuo" (Japan, outliner-Chinese, Korean who are mainly pirates).

Their warring states era was chaotic as well. A certain US of A forces their door to open to modernization and they overtook all Asian countries in less than 100 years. Compare the Ming general Zheng He who commanded the biggest naval fleet ever seen in human history to the pitiful and under-equip naval forces of Qing who were easily humiliated by Japanese imperial forces - you can see how much they improved. But yes, they did borrow much from Tang dynasty - to the point even that Yang YuHuan(Gui fei) was thought to escape death by fleeing to Japan.

very good show that endure the test of time.
you don't need beautiful scenery landscapes or 千军万马 to make a period drama. what's important are good storylines + excellent acting + nice songs to create 气氛 to 感动 viewers .

The Japanese used Kanji (traditional Chinese characters) during their ancient times. Scripts in Edo era were filled with purely Kanji. The reason why Japanese have strokes in as words nowadays is due to a lazier younger generation. Hiragana was introduced to ensure learning Japanese was easy, much like our Simplified Chinese.

Korea and Vietnam were part of China last time, hence the Chinese characters. However, after breaking free, they decided to remove Chinese characters to show that they are different. But now considering PRC is the next superpower in wealth, it might have backfired. A PRC might have an easier time doing business in Japan as he can understand the meanings of some words, than going to Korea and seeing a totally foreign character.

If I remembered correctly, Okinawans never considered themselves as Japanese. They have a different dialect and even their own culture. The real native Japanese were the Ainu people, who of course, were marginalized. I hate to admit it, but a Japanese civilization that is much younger than a 5000-year-old Chinese civilization, is doing much better now.
