Former Chief Justice to be SMU Chancellor
Former Chief Justice of Singapore Mr Yong Pung How has been appointed Chancellor of the Singapore Management University (SMU).
His appointment, for a term of five years, takes effect Wednesday.
Mr Yong takes over from Dr Richard Hu, former Minister for Finance who has served as Chancellor of SMU since July 2002.
Currently the Pro-Chancellor of SMU, Mr Yong Pung How is also Chairman of the Advisory Board and Distinguished Fellow of the School of Law at SMU.
Professor Howard Hunter, President of SMU said: "SMU enjoys a special relationship with Mr Yong, who has been a close friend of the university, and is very proud to have him as our new Chancellor.
"We also want to register our gratitude to Dr Hu for his eight years of service as Chancellor during which he has given us his encouragement and confidence".
