Local opposition is too dispersed, though their objectives were good. They are all fighting for wards at different places. Reminds me of the history of the Russian Civil War between "Whites" and "Reds".

The "Whites" originally had more troops and firepower, however they were crushed by the "Reds" due to the fact that they were too disorganized and nobody on the "White" side knew what each regiment was doing.

Our opposition are like the "Whites", they have enough "ammunation" to take on PAP about their policies, but unfortunately, too dispersed and rather be lone rangers.

PAP is very good at using the old tactic of "divide and conquer". A simple word from LKY praising the existing 2 Opposition MPs has successfully sowed discord among Oppositions, at the same marginalized SDP.

It has everything to do with Chinese culture. The Chinese is the most divisive lot, which is why China was ruled by Mongolians and Manchurians once upon a time.

It is not that easy to sow discord among PAP ranks when LKY is still around. He still commands respect and some fear among the PAP MPs. Singaporeans have seen how ruthless he can be when dealing with people whom he thinks are a threat.

Even if Opposition do sow discord, Old Fart will pull the reins and keep everything under control. However, if he moved on, his son may not do the same, simply because he is seen as a Prime Minister who got the post thanks to his father.

Chinese are a divided bunch. You can see it in Singapore, there are 3 types of Chinese.

1. The Chinese who worships whatever ang moh do

2. The Chinese who likes Japanese/Korean shows and culture, and wish he/she was born one

3. The Chinese who is proud to be Chinese, sadly it is getting more uncommon among younger generation.


One thing I have to give credit to the Japanese is the ability to work hard and push for their nation to succeed. Their pride in their culture is very strong although it borders on arrogance at times and their people do not bash their own kinds (like saying ang mohs are better than locals).

However, the roots of the Japanese can be traced back to Chinese too. They are rumoured either to be Chinese exiles from Qin Shi Wang or northern Chinese that moved to the island. Korea used to be part of China, until Japan annexed it. In a way, both Japanese and Koreans were also formerly "divisive Chinese".

As much as politics is dirty business, they should stop acting like little kids. GE2010/2011 is the best chance for them to succeed if they form a proper coalition, many Singaporeans are quite peeved with the PAP, you can even tell by the number who voluntarily hanged the national flag outside. A drastic decrease.

Furthermore, the voter base is still mostly born-and-bred Singaporeans. Next GE, it will be the opposite. I see most of the opposition parties can work together, maybe except for SPP with SDP.
