Every year we get the bill with our property tax.

My question is whether we have to pay the radio/tv licence if there's no radio & TV in the household

Even if we can receive radio & TV signals, some of us don't want to listen to the radio or watch TV. Why pay for crap :D

So if one has decides to get rid of their TV & radio, can they just ignore the radio/TV bill or do you have to write them to MDA to notify them you no longer own a Radio & TV

The licence fee is paid for having a receiver. So if you have a radio or TV, no matter whether you are listening or watching programs on it, you have to pay. Only way is to stop owning one and you must tell MDA otherwise they'll keep charging you. Same with a car radio or tv. If you change the car, you have to tell them to transfer it.

If you live in a landed proprty, it seems they can detect whether you own a receiver by using special eqpt. I'm not so sure if they can detect yr receiver if you live in HDB, because the TV and FM sockets are commonly linked to one big trunk.

I am still in 'protest' paying for TV Licence, for some years we did not have a Television set at home. We watch mainly DVD's...no TV set I informed MDA, I did not pay TV licence for many years, until we bought one later...

But still we watch only DVDs mainly, for I get sick watching the crappy mediacoporse productions..

Why are we in the medieval age still paying for a TV/Radio set....our TV & Radio is a receiver, not a broadcasting equiptment...I can not do HAM radio with my radio set...nor can I broadcast from my TV...

Whay are we paying for owing a BROABCASTING equiptment...

Back to the point, yes! you can inform MDA that you do not own any TV sets in your house, & they will not bill you; but they will send their spies to your house...so becareful not to cheat big brother...they can 'daylight rob' you, you can not rob them...

maybe later internet radio and tv program as well. I remember the logic behind is to support less popular program which are necessary but then they could have ask $ from turf club with so many charitable gamblers on this island state.

so, do they tax your mobile phone that can receive radio signal ?

You really have short memory? you forgot we have to pay a Licence fee of $50 to own a handphone?? & they scrapped that...

you forgot?....:p

didn't even registered in the brain when you pay for something, esp govt or govt-control stuffs . There is no option to opt out.

Despite its name, you only need to pay the RTV licence fee if you have a TV set on your premises. If you only have radios, you don't have to pay. I was in this situation (have radio but no TV) for a few years and I checked with the bloodsuckers then.

The moment you have to TV, though, you have to pay regardless of whether you watch Sg programmes or not.

The car radio is a different matter. As long as you have a receiver installed in your car, you have to pay the licence fee. What a friend used to do was only have a tape and CD deck installed, and he would bring onboard a handheld radio.

By the way, this is a serious question since I find myself watching internet TV from my computer rather than the the crappy local TV stations. Even can listen to internet radio via the computer

I like to have the TV turned on while surfing but I get so irritated by the propaganda, advertisements, that I turn it off.

If they are going to increase the uitility rates I'll turn off the unnecessary things like TV & save on the radio/TV licence.

For those watching DVDs you can watch on your computer & save on the license :)

You have to pay the licence as long as you have a TV - it doesn't matter whether you switch it on.

A computer is considered "broadcasting equipment" under TV licensing too.
