Last Thursday, a Indian man visited Ms Rachel Zeng's home in the evening. Ms Zeng was not home at that time. The man asked Ms Zeng's parents for her mobilephone number, saying that he wanted her to sign an insurance form. Her parents declined.

When Ms Zeng returned home later that evening, she spotted an Indian man standing at the lift lobby staircase, balancing an opened laptop on one hand and talking on his cellphone with the other. She was with Mr Seelan Palay at that time. Both Ms Zeng and Mr Seelan are actively involved in the anti-death penalty campaign in Singapore.

The moment he saw Ms Zeng, the stranger started to react in an awkard manner, gesticulating frantically.

The two activists went up the elevator but decided to come back down awhile later. When he saw them again, he immediately took out his cellphone to make a call. He started to walk around the block, casting glances to make sure that his spotters couldn't see him.

He then sat down by the walkway, placing himself at a spot when he could look up at Ms Zeng's flat. He remained there for some time.

The two went to a coffeeshop where they called their friends to relate the strange happenings. After about 30 minutes they went back to Ms Zeng's block and saw the man at the same spot. When he saw them, he cursed and walked away before getting on his phone again.

The following evening Ms Zeng spotted another man, this time a Chinese, also with a mini-laptop opened on his palm at the same spot she saw the first man the night before. This time, the stranger was less nervous. He smiled at Ms Zeng. As she entered the lift to go up to her flat, the man came to the lift door as it was closing and waved to her.

Did the incidents have anything to do with the fact that Ms Zeng was the organiser for Mr Alan Shadrake's book launch that was held on 17 Jul 10? Mr Shadrake was arrested and is being investigated for criminal defamation and contempt of court. Bookstores have been ordered not to sell the book Once A Jolly Hangman.

Ms Zeng thinks so. "I'm suspicious because it came just two days before Alan's book launch which I have been organising," she tells the SDP website. "The first guy may have been just a weird stranger who just happened to be there. But there was this second guy who was carrying the same laptop and waved to me. How coincidental is that? That's when I think they were trying to send me a message."

Better be carefool. Ms. Zeng could end up being gang raped...well she might enjoy it but then it will be against her will to enjoy.


Allow me to give Ms. Zeng this piece of advice from Confusious: "When a lady is being raped, lay back and enjoy it.

She should quickly learn some 10 to 12 hours of street self-defence...not martial arts...but real self-defence classes conducted by ex-police persons or bouncers.

I was more amused by the term "the two activists" in the artcle. I am also intrigued by the 2 characters with the laptops. Obviously nothing to do with the govt. If it was getting the handphone number or detaining them, the govt spent thed last 5 decades honing their skills in this area and so would not be an issue. Anyway ISD has never classififed SDP or its associates as a security threat. The Govt treats them more a nuisance.

Really a mystery. I am also wondering why the need for a laptop. Reminds me of the time, the guy who kept tabs on Bob Sim postings on him and made his way to Bob' home. I wonder if Rachel posted something about these guys.

The other weird thing is the gesticulating.

Remember the last post when I told you guys I took this cab to work at Singapore Technologies. Upon reaching, taxi uncle hinted to me to be careful,apparently, warning me that something is going on.

I don't care too much for activists especially when they target only a small segment of society, whether they are anti death penalty, or anti gay, or pro gay, or whatever.
But I hope that people will accept their rights to have a stand and to lobby for that stand. Instead of targetting the activists who lobby for something they don't approve, they should learn to have respect for others' opinions and by all means have their own opinions and express them in their own ways.

I did surveillance before. (Yes, the term is surveillance, not monitor.) Thanklessly tedious and boring job, not as exciting and glamorous as you'd seen in movies.

there are a few classes of surveillance, i think.

One is that when you start work in a MNC, they will like to monitor and see how you perform.

Second, more severe one, they will see and drop you hint as they probably think that you are not too bad a person,can be saved!
I think i belonged to this class,that was why, I was given warning.

The govt has always been heavy handed and would have stepped in if they wanted to. They have never followed rules of natural justice nor have they respected the concept of democracy. Why would they bother going thru this. Furthermore, they are not threat to PAP for GE and this not national interest item in the first.

They will screw the Alan Shadrake guy and it will back to normal business. It more like Uncle Yap telling that he is being followed by the ISD until people lost interest.

Speaking from experience, it's likely that they do this as a form of harrassment or psychological tactic. After this incident, do you think that the rachel will dare to cross the line in future?

If I am her, I will go see MP and write to MM,SM and PM. Let them seek the truth from ISD if she's been followed. This way, she will know if she has been followed or just merely her suspicions.

Most likely, she will receive a call from ISD telling her either they were just passing by or no such thing at all.

Who want to bet with me? I say high possibility that she is right!
