Telcos are not profiteering from World Cup

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
WE REFER to Mr Quek Soo Beng's Forum Online letter ('What telcos can do to keep soccer fans'; May 24) on SingTel and StarHub's World Cup packages and would like to reassure our customers that we are not profiteering from the carriage of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. In fact, all we are hoping for is to break even.
We seek our customers' understanding regarding the pricing of our World Cup packages.
SingTel and StarHub have worked very closely together to make all 64 World Cup matches available at a reasonable price. We have tried our best to lower costs and explored all avenues, including approaching sponsors and advertisers, to defray these costs so as to keep prices for customers as low as possible.
We have done all that we could to bring the 2010 Fifa World Cup to Singapore, and we recently announced more options for football fans who are keen to catch the tournament. SingTel and StarHub will be providing the broadcast feed for the 2010 Fifa World Cup free-of-charge to 16 community clubs across Singapore, so more can enjoy the matches with their families and friends at these public screenings. In addition, we have also just announced that we have sealed the deal with MediaCorp to offer four key matches via free-to-air.
About providing fair broadcast coverage on sporting events like the Formula One, the Olympics and the Youth Olympic Games, SingTel and StarHub have always endeavoured to present major sporting events 'live' to viewers in Singapore, whereby the broadcast rights to such events are acquired individually with the respective content providers.
SingTel and StarHub are official broadcasters of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) - SingTel will broadcast the Youth Olympic News Channel via mobile phones and develop a website that will host a dedicated channel broadcasting coverage of the YOG to an international audience, while StarHub will offer 'live' coverage of YOG events free on dedicated channels via cable TV, mobile and online platforms, and broadcast the Youth Olympic News Channel over cable TV and online.
mio TV will offer coverage of the Formula One races on ESPN and Star Sports from next month. While broadcast details for the 2012 London Olympics are not available at this juncture, StarHub TV had previously offered free 'live' coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games across six dedicated cable TV channels.

Sinktel + Starsux will never answer our questions why other countries pay to tv operators are charging much less $$ to watch WC and we are paying so much.

We can ask them this same question 1 millions time, those two companies will beat around the bush, start saying World Cup free-of-charge to 16 community clubs across Singapore but just refuse to answer that question.

we all know the answer anyway.

Fuck you bitch! Might as well say both are non profitable organization.
:D

actually plenty, angmo countries included with the exception of OZ & US I know...

but they give you full coverage of all the matches for free!! LOL!

i suspect in SGP after you paid, you still get alot of crap advertisements to go with it...:D

Every Spore govt department, Stat Board and GLC is a money sucking machine. The system works this way so that each CEO and Directors of the Board gets rewarded with mega dollar bonuses each year.

That is the reason why, they gave the civil serpents, 0.5 month bonus plus $300, so that, these people will support the antics of Starsux & Sing & Tell, who will tell you that, they are demand out there.

So you others...out there sit down & shut up!...it is still AFFORDABLE, brought to you by the People's Affordable party..:D

I believe they are right, they are not profiteering from this because those fuckwits didn't have a chance to so last minute!:D

Singtel and Starhub probably really aren't making any money on this, possibly even a loss. But all this was because of the crazy prices they paid for the English Premier League.

What's this hangup over 22 grown men after a piece of hide anyway?

Telcos are not profiteering from World Cup

Yes we are not profiteering .

We are just building budget to expand into India Market .

"we are not profiteering......."

And LHL became PM on his own merits, nothing to do with LKY...
