I'm a student in poly and recently, my poly friend has shared with me that she's been on MSN chat with one of our lecturers and besides sharing notes and advice with her, they've been chatting about intimate things too (eg: sex jokes, sex info, dating habits etc).

Then she tells me she thinks she's falling for him ... and he's married. In the beginning, when our lecturer gave us his MSN id to direct questions to, I used to think that he was cool and that it was in keeping up with the times.

Now that I hear what he's been doing, it's clear he's unprofessional and abusing IT. I'm not lying as I have seen some of the chat msgs/emails he's sharing with my friend. When talking to my friend, she says she knows what she's feeling is wrong and she's trying to distance herself.

I hope this is an isolated case but in general, some of the lecturers do share their email and MSN id with students as a means to appear 'get closer' to students.

Just wanted throw a question to know if most people are open to teachers/lecturers MSN chatting with their students. Or do you think it should be strictly restricted to email and no chatting ?

I reckoned that keeping up with technology is fine, no big deal about students adding their lecturers in their MSN list, etc.
tricky part is this: social values changes over time & how we shape it depends entirely on the bulk of us. question now is: are we willing to accept the idea of teachers/lecturers dating the students/ex-students?
lecturers dating students and vice versa would be frowned upon, primarily due to obvious conflict of interests. dating ex-lecturers or ex-students seem rather acceptable for me. :)

Agree. He can ditch his wife and date the student after she graduated. Flirting with her over MSN when he is still her teacher is WRONG!

Can someone please provide more info on this lecturer? I want to personally see him sacked. A wolf in sheep skins is unfit be a teacher.

which polytechnic is this?

what is the exact content of the exchanges in context?

the author of the article is a male or female?

if the author is a guy, is he carrying a torch for the young lass whom is in close contact with lecturer?

if the author is a girl, is she jealous or what?

hi there

1. come on! wake up and smell the coffee!
2. he is grooming the naive slut for his advances.
3.what trust, he wants it, she needs it too.

Of course the lecturers can chat or msn with their students about the schoolwork and lessons.
If they want to talk about other things, please wait another 10 years.
