Man stabbed at Selegie Rd

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> IN THE wake of a spate of slashings at Kallang over the weekend, another man was fatally stabbed yesterday evening at PoMo, along Selegie Road.
Mr Sitoh Woon Chee, 59, was leaving for home after work at about 6.45pm when he was knifed to death. He was a part-time employee of Singapore Pools, whose job was to announce lottery results. Mr Sitoh's wife, visibly distraught and helped by a group of people, arrived at the scene at about 9pm.

She was later taken into the Pools office, accompanied by a group of relatives.
A company spokesman said the police were notified shortly after the incident. The Straits Times understands that the attacker had tried to escape but was eventually caught by the police. Police are still investigating the case. It is also not clear if the incident is related to the slashings at Kallang, which left one dead and three injured.

And the 154th are in cahoots with the Poodles to downplay this killing spree instead of raising an islandwide alert!

Malaysian threaten the staff working inside to kelong but did not .

So they let the knifes do the talking .

3 Malaysians arrested. 4 on the run! Why Malaysians?

It is an election year & the state media have to sing the praises of the favoured party but with so many foreigners running around I bet their hiding alot of crime committed by these foreigners.

These Malaysians were just too dumb, they killed their victims. If they had stuck to petty crime the cime would have been ignored by the authorities

Next to be investigated will be people inside Singapore Pools !

Wow, Singapore is no longer a safe place to live, it is now fast becoming a murder hub.

Wow, Singapore is no longer a safe place to live, it is now fast becoming a murder hub.

Not just simple murder, complicates with money involve .

In the near future, we might see the come back of
kidnapping and blackmail cases .

I have always been suspicious that police inspector was reading scripts in front of camera. They look so stiffed, robotic and their eyes seemed to move from one end to the other across the screen. Can't these people just report from their own heart that 9 "foreign talents" have committed murder. Are the spokesman so worried that they may say something wrong and PAP kena aimed again. Thus explains why everything was well-prepared for them before the camera started to roll. Insincere - just like ambiguous statistic figures.

<!-- story content : start --> KNOWING that a man had just stabbed their colleague and could be armed did not stop two Singapore Pools employees from going after him. The two men, security assistant Muhammad Rudino Mohamed, 38, and his colleague, Mr Roswira Abdul Rani, 39, a technician, trailed him for 20 minutes - all the while on the phone with the cops to keep them updated on his whereabouts. They eventually led police to the man who stabbed their colleague outside PoMo mall on Selegie Road on Monday evening.

Mr Sitoh Woon Chee, 59, a part-time lottery results announcer succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. Mr Rudino and Mr Roswira were earlier taking a break outside the mall when they heard a commotion between two men. One fell 'awkwardly' to the ground after a short scuffle while the other walked away. Only when they approached the victim did they realise that it was Mr Sitoh, whom they had known for about five years.

Re: Bravery amidst danger

There was also another stabbing incident recently, whereby an office worker was stabbed while on her way to work in the morning, before her handbag was snatched.
This, the Selegie stabbing and the Kallang stabbings are very serious crimes. They show how desperate and vicious the perpetuators are, and how much risk they are willing to take for relatively little reward, i.e. a handbag, a handphone, wallet of ordinary people.
The authorities should have come out to explain the situation by now and at least tell the people what to look out for.
That's what they would do in any other country other than super unique Singapore, where the peoples' interests are not always the priority.

___________Gang of 7 believed to be behind spate of attacks in Kallang; 3 arrested[/SIZE]
By Leong Wee Keat, Lynda Hong | Posted: 01 June 2010 1151 hrs

SINGAPORE: A gang of seven was believed to have been responsible for the recent spate of attacks in the Kallang area on Sunday, which left one man dead and three others seriously injured.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said on Tuesday that three Malaysians have been arrested in connection with the attacks.

They are between 21 and 26 years old and were nabbed near Syed Alwi Road between 6pm and 10pm on Monday evening.

All three came from Sarawak and were general workers living in a dormitory in the area.

Four other suspects are still at large, but CID has vowed to "go all out" to hunt them down.

Investigations are still ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining four suspects and also to determine if the suspects were involved in any previous cases of robbery.

Calling the crimes "vicious and violent", the CID said the men were caught after a 24-hour large scale island-wide operation that saw 100 police officers deployed to crack the crimes.

ASP Daniel Wong, Special Investigation Section, CID, said: "There were four random victims who were unknown to each other and we understand that this was committed by a group of suspects completely unknown to the victims. So it was harder to draw the connection, link them and establish their identities."

The attackers first struck on Sunday at 12:15am - a 24-year-old man was attacked at a playground near Block 44 Sims Drive. About half an hour later, near Kallang MRT station, a 44-year-old man was slashed from behind.

Another was found injured along the PIE near Sims Way exit at 7am. Half an hour later, a fourth victim was fatally attacked near a condominium at Sims Way.

Even though four suspects are still at large, some residents and workers in the area trust that security is still in place.

"We are familiar with the ground, we are not afraid of it. But if there are strangers around, then we have to take care," a resident said.

"I've been working here for about three years plus. Should be no problem," said a worker.

The three who have been arrested will be charged in court on Wednesday with murder and armed robbery with hurt.

SINGAPORE : A disheveled-looking man was charged in the Subordinate Court Wednesday morning for the murder of a part-time Toto lottery draw results announcer on last Monday.

53-year-old Fang Gao San was said to have murdered Mr Sito Woon Chee, 59, at around 6.41pm in front of PoMo Mall along Selegie Road.

Mr Sito was fatally stabbed 15 minutes after he announced Monday's draw results.

Fang who allegedly fled the scene on foot, was then caught by police officers with the help of two members of the public.

Fang and Mr Woon were reportedly not known to each other.

During the short mention this morning, Fang, who has long hair, appeared hard on hearing as he asked the court interpreter twice to speak loudly.

He has been remanded for further psychiatric evaluation and will next appear in court on June 23.

If convicted, Fang faces the death penalty. - CNA/jy

THEY thought he had fainted until they saw blood trickling from his back and staining his shirt. And it was only after the police arrived at PoMo mall in Selegie Road that the workers there realised part-time Toto announcer Sitoh Woon Chee had been fatally stabbed. How he was stabbed and why there was no commotion remains a mystery. The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 7.15pm.

Said a waiter from a nearby coffee shop, who gave his name only as Mr Johar, 39: "We didn't hear a single sound or scream. It's puzzling because our shop is less than 20m from the entrance. "Just before 7pm, I realised that the man lying face-down had blood staining the back of his white shirt. It looked as though he had been stabbed. "There were some security guards there but I think nobody dared to move the man."

Equally shocked was Kenneth Tan, 17, who had just finished a mixed martial arts session in a studio a floor above the murder scene. From his vantage point, Kenneth said it was possible to see the crowds who had came to watch. He said: "I was just relaxing when another student said a man had been stabbed downstairs. "The six of us went down with an instructor but there was nothing much we could do.

"Somebody had said that the police had already been notified." Witnesses said that police arrived just before 7pm and covered the body with a blue tent. They also cordoned off the surrounding area. Mr Sitoh was part of the draw team at the Singapore Pools outlet at PoMo mall. It was believed that he had been the announcer during yesterday's Toto draw at 6.30pm. A Singapore Pools spokesman said that, Mr Sitoh was fatally wounded as he left work at about 6.45pmyesterday.

Due to the rain, the crowd that had come to witness the draw was "smaller than usual" said the spokesman. The spokesman added that Mr Sitoh's family had been informed of the incident. Family members arrived at around 8.30pm. Some were in tears and had to be comforted by other family members and friends as the group slowly walked towards the Singapore Pools outlet. They were also accompanied by Singapore Pools staff members.

One of the family friends, who did not want to give his name, said: "I just got to know about this shocking piece of news. It's terrible for the family." The same man was then seen walking in and out of the Singapore Pools outlet, making calls on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, a large crowd had gathered nearby to watch the proceedings. When some passers-by, like a man who only gave his name as Mr Koh, learnt that the dead man was a Toto announcer, speculation started to make its rounds.

Said Mr Koh, 45, who was in the area to collect documents from his company office: "Maybe some punter lost a lot of money and was unhappy at not hearing his chosen numbers being announced. "So it was just the dead man's luck that the punter went for him. Who knows?" Police arrested a 53-year-old suspect at Bugis Village with the assistance of two members of the public. Two knives were recovered from the suspect.
