A recent study by Tokyo-based matchmaking service IBJ reveals that being exceptionally tall does not necessarily give men an advantage in the marriage hunting market. Analyzing data from 19,112 successful marriages among its members, the report indicates that successful marriage rates plateau once a man reaches a height of 172 centimeters. Interestingly, for men under 160 centimeters, financial stability drastically improves their success rate, jumping fourfold if their annual income exceeds 8.5 million yen.
The data also showed that couples most frequently fall within a height difference of 9 to 16 centimeters, suggesting women prioritize relative visual balance over raw height. Ultimately, the findings suggest that while initial physical benchmarks exist, economic stability and personal compatibility hold far greater weight for long-term partnership success.
