Tokyo police just arrested a 78-year-old grandmother and her 44-year-old daughter.

The charge: running fake Hermès bags imported from China through pawnshops across the city.

The daughter, Hisano Watanabe, allegedly sourced nothing but counterfeit Hermès from Chinese suppliers.

Each time, her mother, Takako Sato, carried the bags into a shop and collected the cash.

In one 2024 hit at an Edogawa pawnshop, eight fake bags brought in 14 million yen — about $90,000.

The counterfeits were so convincing that trained appraisers logged them as authentic.

Police say the scheme ran across multiple shops over the course of a year.

Total estimated damages: more than 100 million yen, over $640,000.

Both women deny the charges, insisting they did nothing wrong.
