The problem isn't racism, it's systemic economic anxiety.

We the local-born population, Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian Singaporeans alike, perceive ourselves becoming an underclass in our own economy, and that triggers deep identity threat. Dismissing this as xenophobia is intellectually dishonest. Every mature democracy grapples with this tension. Our government must open such honest conversation harmoniously.

The CECA community is not exactly the main nor only problem. They are the more visible face of invisible policy failures. Banning speech without fixing the underlying conditions doesn't produce harmony it produces pressurised resentment that eventually finds more destructive expression.

We Singaporeans have always been warm and welcoming people, always has been. I say again, always has been. We are cosmopolitan in nature. But if you take away our jobs, overtax us and gaslight us for your policy failures, we wonder how our children are going to survive in the future.

This is only the tip of the cow turd that we have step into. I suggest the Ministers start addressing Joblessness, Immigration and Education Reforms, and Open Constructive Dialogue Channels with genuine intention to solve these critical challenges. And stop GASLIGHTING us Singaporeans for your own policies F*ckups.

PM Wong is still smiling after he was outsmarted by Indian negotiators when he signed away more than 300,000 PME jobs.

The Indian govt, through its Ministry of External Affairs, estimates the number of Indians in S'pore to be around 650,000. This figure includes Non-Resident Indians residing in our country. Imagine how many PMET jobs were signed away by the PAP.

This Redditor speaks the truth.

I agree 100% that the root issue is economic anxiety, and not racism which Edwin Tong is using to distract everyone. True blue local born S'poreans of all races feel marginalised in our own country; there is a genuine crisis of identity where our men are expected to shoulder the responsibility of NS even as we lose our livelihood to non-S'poreans with no obligation to defend our country. To dismiss this anxiety as xenophobia is criminal. Locals are not merely targeting specific foreigners; the PAP is missing the point. The CECAs are simply the visible manifestation of broader failed policies. Silencing the people without fixing the root causes doesn’t foster harmony. It just bottles up the growing resentment until it spills over. Locals have a proven record of being open to foreigners. However, when citizens feel their livelihoods are threatened and their valid concerns are dismissed, our fear for our children takes over. This current unhappiness is just the tip of the iceberg. It is time for our Ministers to stop deflecting blame, face the realities of job insecurity, immigration and preferential treatment of CECAs, and engage the public in honest dialogue. The govt claims to hear us, but do they ever listen?

Just like Australia that admits 500k immigrants a year, it's these immigrants that boost the economic numbers and make it look excellent compared to immediate neighbours.

Australia is a continent while S'pore is the most densely populated island in the world. Having almost 2 million foreigners in a population of 6 million in SG is utterly ludicrous.

Indian is not a race….it is a nationality. Dark skinned Sinkies are keklings and other Sinkies have no problems either them. It is the CECAs that we have a problem with…those that just came did not help built SG like the rest of us since the 1960s.

Indians are an ethnicity.
