I just realised that for modern HDB lifts, you can cancel the floor which you have accidentally pressed by pressing on the button twice.

My colleague openly admitted he cannot afford a private condo so buying that BMW was his consolation prize. He is an honest person.

Why do people want to purchase something which they can hardly afford just to show off to others who don't give a fuck about them anyway just to prove that they have attain a certain status in life? Even when they really have that kind of wealth, why can't they just pretend to be poor and humble so that nobody will know that they are rich?

There are people who buy a car for its quality and reliability as well as the convenience and comfort it provides. Driving a BMW may have nothing to do with showing off.

Buying a private home in S'pore is more than just for prestige. I wanted a more spacious and comfortable private condo in a safer neighbourhood for my family. It is also an investment on a freehold home, and not 99-year-lease. My wife and I managed to upgrade out of our HDB by our early 30s. It is far more difficult for young PMET couples to do so nowadays.

Because of the kind of people the PAP regime is bringing in, and the way newer BTO flats are being constructed, sometimes it might be more prudent to buy a private home, if you can afford it. For personal protection.

This lift feature must be a thrill to coolie gene Sinkies in hdb. Another vote for PAP.

It's more thrilling to stop the lift and have sex inside it. Don't forget to deactivate the Hikvision security camera inside first.

I rented out my freehold property and continue staying in a HDB flat. I get rental income and also enjoy govt subsidies.

You cannot receive govt subsidies if you own a private home, regardless of whether you live in a HDB flat, or rent out your assets. In S'pore, broad-based govt subsidies and payouts like GSTV - S & CC rebates, property tax rebates etc. are means-tested based on property ownership.

The private property is legally in the name of my mum, but I paid for it. And I am named as the sole beneficiary under her will. The will is kept by me. So it's as good as mine. After she's gone, I'll probably sell it off when the price is right.

So that private home is not legally under your name.

Private property owner has direct ownership of the property

HDB pigeon hole dwellers often tot they are the “owner” but the real owner is actually HDB

In law, there's this thing called beneficial interest/ownership. I deliberately did this just in case my business fucks up to prevent creditors from touching the property.

Owners of condos may form their own committee to initiate a collective sale to a new developer whenever they wish to since they have a title deed. If an agreement for an en bloc sale goes through, the buyer indemnifies the SLA to return the lease to its original 99-year tenure. HDB dwellers have no such option, since they are not owners of their units, but tenants.

If you don't own the land, you own fuck all. That's what I've been saying.

You own the land, ownership is forever, inherited by your descendants. You can choose what to build on the land, and who to keep out.

That's true ownership.
