A 38-year-old Chinese national has been charged in court for allegedly offering a bribe to an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer in an attempt to gain entry into Singapore.

According to a press release from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), Kong Zhenni was charged on Mar. 10 in relation to the alleged incident.

Allegedly offered ICA officer S$100​

The alleged offence took place on Dec. 26, 2025.

CPIB said Kong is accused of offering S$100 to ICA officer Inspector Gimis Kwek at Changi Airport Terminal 4.

The money was allegedly offered as an inducement for the officer to allow her to enter Singapore.

Speaking in court in Mandarin through a translator, Kong reportedly said she had offered the money as a “token of appreciation” and asked the officer to escort her to the toilet, as she had been waiting at the airport for a long time.

However, the officer rejected the offer.

The case was subsequently referred to CPIB for investigation.

Faces charge under Prevention of Corruption Act​

For the alleged act, Kong faces one charge under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Under the law, a person convicted of a corruption offence may be fined up to S$100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both.

Singapore maintains zero tolerance towards corruption​

Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance stance towards corruption.

CPIB said it investigates all corruption-related complaints and reports, including anonymous ones.

Members of the public can report suspected corruption through several channels, including submitting an online complaint, sending an email ([email protected]), calling the CPIB hotline (1800-376-0000), or writing to the bureau.
