National Courtesy Campaign

“We must teach children and adults to be courteous to each other. We want to be courteous because life will be better for all.”

Speech by Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew at the launch of the National Courtesy campaign, 1979

1979 saw the launch of the National Courtesy Campaign which was conceived and inaugurated by the then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The principal objective of the campaign was to create a pleasant social environment through the inculcation of courteous and considerate behaviour among Singaporeans. The campaign adopted “Make Courtesy our Way of Life” as the slogan.

(Why he never teach rude PRC cunts to be courteous to locals leh?)

you need to move on....

the SGP of 79 is vastly different from the SGP of 10.

likewise, the LKY of 79 is vastly different from the the LKY of 10..

LKY, as Minister Mentor, should look at himself closely in the mirror.
He should also have a word with his ministers, MPs and their families to set good examples.

Words like:-
- "meet me at the culvert",
- "knuckle dusters", "spurs didn't stick"
- "get our of my elite face",
- "fix the opposition",
- "Do you want three meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?"

are not inspiring Singaporeans to be courtesy.

The plan may backfire for people like leetahbah who bash his own father. Lol

These words can also be used very politely.
For example, "Would you like to meet me at the cul-de-sac please?" or "Please don't make me take out my knuckle-duster."
Before slapping anyone, we should also always ask for permission first. And do remember to apologise later and ask if it felt good.
It's only courteous to do so.

Yes, courtesy could avoid defamation suit...e.g. once upon a time in 2001...

CSJ : Oh hello Mr. Goh, so nice to meet you here. See that you're also working hard on the campaign trail.

GCT : Well of course, nice to see you here too. As PM, I'm glad to see opposition is putting up the efforts, that's good.

CSJ : By the way, there're rumors about tens of billions loaned to Suharto before his regime collapsed, but not recovered since. Would the PM like to take this opportnity to clarify?

GCT : No, no. We did promised to standby a certain quantum of loan, you know, as friendly neighbors and ASEAN members, but the Suharto regime collapsed before the credits were drawn upon.

CSJ : Oh I see. Thanks Prime Minister, for the clarification. Though I'd hope that national funds credit lines are to be extended more carefully with more scrutiny next time.

GCT : Of course of course. It was honest mistake and unforeseen circumstances. Though it's not possible to 100% right all the time but we do take the lesson very seriously, and will improve on it.

CSJ : Glad to hear that. we'll be on my way to the stall over there for coffee, care to join us for a sip Prime Minister?

GCT : I'd like to but I don't think so. I have other appointments to attend to.

CSJ : Oh well, see you next time then Prime Minister.

GCT : Yes sure, wish you all the best.

Disclaimer : The above skit is pure fictitiously paraodied imagination of a courteous outcome in that GCT and CSJ encounter in GE 2001.

Seriously though, if he had done that from the beginning, he could very well be an elected mp today.

Interesting poster. The colors albeit a dull combination seemed to be chosen carefully to represent the three races.

LKY brand of courtesy : I wear a knuckleduster and carry a hatchet. Come meet me in the cul-de-sac.

(Discourteous translation : I'll smash up your brains silly and chop you up bloody.)

LHL brand of courtesy: We'll make sure it'll cost them some money.

(Discourteous translation : They money too much is it? Want to challenge us?)
