A driver reversing his car was caught on surveillance camera hitting an elderly woman who was moving the rubbish bin outside her house in a private property estate in Ang Mo Kio.
The driver then got out of the car and walked away, without assisting the fallen woman.
The elderly woman’s son subsequently emerged from the house and saw his mother lying on the ground as the man continued walking away. The son told Mothership he has since lodged a police report.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to an accident involving a car and a pedestrian along Jalan Chengam towards JaIan Lanjut in Ang Mo Kio at about 2:30pm on Nov. 12.
A 61-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) also confirmed that they received a call for assistance along Jalan Chengam at about 2:35pm on the same day.
The woman was conveyed to Woodlands Health Campus.
Left without helping
According to CCTV footage shot from the house, the driver was seen walking towards his car and getting in just as the woman went outside. She waited for the driver to get in and drive away.
As he drove forward, the woman stepped up to retrieve the bin positioned behind the vehicle. However, the car suddenly reversed and hit her, knocking her to the ground.
The woman was not visible in parts of the footage as the gate obstructed the view, but she could be heard shouting.
The driver was then seen stepping out of the car with his bag and was heard saying "Sorry ah" before walking off.As he walked further away, he turned back briefly to lock his car before continuing on his way.
Moments later, the woman's son emerged and paused to witness what was happening before going back into the house to grab his phone.
He helped his mother up afterwards, he shared.Hospitalised
The son told Mothership that his mother sustained minor bleeding on her head and a fractured bone."He walked away like nothing happened. Super disrespectful and dangerous,” the son said.
According to the son, the driver is a resident in the private property estate who lives nearby.
