There is a common checklist that couples need to achieve significant financial stability like career success, securing a HDB BTO flat, before they can seriously consider marriage and having children. The high cost of living and housing in S'pore makes these items challenging to meet early in life. Is this why people here are settling down at an older age, or simply not wanting to get married at all?

urbanization and the empowering of women are some of the causes of aging population. NS is another big burden. There is no need to defend a country anymore if the economy is totally destroyed by a low TFR. Importing the snakes into the country is a temporary solution that is not sustainable in a long run.

Growing individualism means that young Sinkies are more emotionally and financially self-sufficient. There is rising acceptance that remaining single is a valid life choice; this lessens the pressure to rush into a relationship or settle for a less than suitable spouse.

Dating apps often lead to fatigue and disillusionment. Too many users are looking for flings or are not serious about marriage. The volume of choices make people feel like they are merely an option on a shelf, constantly searching for the next best thing and making it more difficult for users to commit. Ghosting, scams and people misrepresenting themselves online erode trust and lead to leaving the dating scene for good.

And an inflow of many foreigners, most with highly dubious qualifications and background.

Let them breed. Let them consume. Let them defend.

Besides the huge cost of supporting a family in S'pore, the stress of raising children in a competitive environment here is a major factor in delaying or forgoing parenthood, which is linked to marriage.

Only the truly stupid will get married and have children in SG.
Good luck if they divorce with retarded kids.
The wife will wipe the husbands bank account clean.
Because PAP will not help you.
