What "hefty army" are you referring to? We only have a tiny force of SAF regulars, while the vast majority form a "citizens' armed forces".

If my neighbour crosses the fence into my house, kills my wife, as well as kidnaps and rapes my daughters, then I will do everything within my power to rescue my children, and make sure that neighbour never repeats his crimes again. Such perspective is not weird. It is only normal should WE, as a CIVILIZATION live in jungles and caves where barbarism rule of might is the law.....
A) But we no longer live in jungles or caves, but had evolved, with system of justice, governance, perceptions on how to to further grow and evolve, such as trade, economics, education, etc., and even went to the Moon and beyond....

When our govt hangs a drug peddler, should his family seek revenge upon the govt - whom are ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES and LEGISLATORS to represent us?
Was hanging the drug peddler, who had grown rich at the expense of millions others being hooked to his drugs, lost their minds, resorting to vices to pay for the drugs which only enriches the peddler even further, not guilty?
His family may be concern for him, but WHAT ABOUT THE MILLIONS OF LIVES that he had CONTAMINATED? If his family seeks revenge, then may they be prepared MILLIONS of others whom had lost their sons and daughters WILL REVENGE upon his family too....
So in the end, who loses, and for what purpose? Blood ties. ancient traditions, emotional clouded judgements upon rational minds?
Therefore, are the Muslim Communities Worldwide justified in supporting the brutal and cruel Palestinian Arabs whom had lived on a slogan TO KILL INFIDELS AND JEWS which is AGAINST Islam - a religion of peace as taught by the last Divine sent prophet Muhammad but sadly twisted even before his death bed got cold, and condemning Israel for defending itself, loved ones, families, relatives and friends, and Nation?
B) When England Ruled the Arab World, seized from the brutal and cruel Ottoman Empire, it owned the land of Palestine, whom both Jews and Arabs shared the land. When England lost WW2, and came to senses when USA won it back for them, they realized that they own nothing, and independence was granted to its land holdings overseas.
The landmass of Palestine was divided between the Jews and the Arabs, whom had lived in peace for centuries, for each to have a homeland of their own, more so the jews whom saw billions of their kind being BULLIED AND EXTERMINATED for centuries, not just by the devil Hitler.
Unfortunately, Arabs being Arabs - well known since ancient times for being nomads, caravan raiders, cunning, conniving and thieves, wanted Palestine for themselves, and thru the MISUSE of Islam - a religion of peace - sought to KILL EVERY JEW and push anyone remaining into the sea.....The rest is history as how the Arabs lost the war not just once, but twice and much more.....
Perhaps, the Gulf States rulers realized ALLAH was not with them, as their fiery Islamic apostates had claimed.
And Palestine was largely left in peace, which saw the hardworking Israelis built up their Nation from desert to blooming green paradise, unlike the Arabs on the other side of Palestine - a land of sand and waste, no intention to uplift lives thru education and trade or evolve.....except living on hate and sloth, as well as from charities from NAIVE Muslims worldwide whom thought that they were supporting fellow Muslims, without realizing that those Arabs living in Palestine are NEVER followers of what the good prophet Muhammad had taught, only to twist and take past situations out of context to KILL INFIDELS AND JEWS....
C)The Palestinian Arabs had made their choice, despite the best counsels from Humans and True Muslims.
Thus THEY WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR CHOICE, while rest of Humankind, whom had done their best for decades to help but only to be treated with contempt by the Arabs, to accept those Palestinian Arabs whom are prepared to be True Muslims, forsaking terrorism and learn to live in peace to progress and evolve, into their lands, which even their Arab brothers Gulf State leaders would not accept them, as they know what such brutal and cruel Arabs will do to their own progressing countries...
