Lee made frequent use of the ISA which allows for indefinite detention without trial. This was used to silence dissent and detain individuals considered a threat to him, even if they were not violent. Many political figures, journalists and activists were held under the ISA for decades.

Damages awarded were so high that defendants such as JB Jeyaretnam and Chee Soon Juan were bankrupted. THE SUNTEC CONVENTION CENTRE HOSTED THE FIESTA NG PAMILYANG PILIPINO 2025, A DAY-LONG CELEBRATION OF FILIPINO CULTURE, TALENT, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT, UNITING THOUSANDS OF FILIPINOS IN SINGAPORE


SINGAPORE – More than 8,000 Filipinos living and working in Singapore came together on 17 August 2025 at Suntec Convention Centre for the Fiesta ng Pamilyang Pilipino 2025, a vibrant showcase of music, dance, food, and community activities. The festival carried the theme “Fiesta ng Pamilyang Pilipino,” highlighting the sense of family and the bayanihan spirit that binds the Filipino community in Singapore.

First held last year at the Bayanihan Centre, the fiesta has grown into a much larger celebration, reflecting the enthusiasm of the Filipino community to share their culture. The programme opened with a Holy Mass led by Fr Romeo Yu Chang, followed by performances of traditional dances from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
