Poorer local kids go to NTU - The Demise of Nanyang Technological University

Let's say you qualify for the same course in NUS and NTU, which will you go?
NUS right?

Let's say you qualify for the same course in SMU and NTU, which will you go?
SMU right?

Let's say you are a foreigner, unsubsidized, qualified for NUS and NTU, which will you go?
NUS right?

Let's say you are a foreigner, unsubsidized, qualified for LSE, UCL and NTU, which will you go?
Not NTU right?

Let's say you are a foreigner, it costs the same for you to enrol into UNSW, Melbourne U, and NTU, which will you go?
Not NTU right?
If you are rich, Chinese and intelligent with equal opportunity to enrol in NUS, LSE, NTU, UNSW, which will you go?
NTU, because of Mandarin language.

Switching to using Mandarin by our local universities was long pondered.
Now, implementing. Wise move.
SG will boom.

i know a rich PRC who went to LSE to study data science when offered a NTU Scholarship and self-financed course to LSE.

ya for some post-grad courses in NTU. Maybe's it's because the NTU profs can't speak English properly.

Tier-1 PRC professionals will want a post-grad in western world. There are also chinese-lang distance-learning MBA from elite western universities in Shanghai.

Looks like our Mandarin courses will be taken by tier-2s from China.

The NTU today is not Nantah. NTU is ranked fairly high in global rankings but it's not because it is good.

It is ranked high because of it's "cultural diversity" with plenty of China, Indian, ASEAN students subsidized to study in Singapore and inferior teaching staff from these countries. Student can feedback about shitty professors, but nothing will happen to them. In Asia, top Chinese Korean and Japanese universities boast with far greater academic achievements and NTU will be ranked much lower behind them if these universities prioritize the hiring of foreign professors and recruiting foreign students, desperately like what NTU does.

NTU is like a shithole these days. The campus is like Chinatown or Little India these days.

While our local kids teach tuition, work part-time or use parent's CPF loan for their uni education, the NTU foreign students enjoys sex orgies in campus dorms during weekends, and with got spare allowance to smoke weed these days because most are on an all-expense paid trip (fees, lodging and allowance). Without subsidies and scholarships, foreign students will rather go to another university in Singapore or another country.

No doubt, NTU continues to train many local students with good academic results, it is a tough route to survive due to the biased grading system that forgives foreign students with weaker English proficiency. For years, NTU grads are good obedient civil servants or managers in private sector. However, networking is important in university life. Only a tiny fraction of Singapore's leading politicans and wealthy families enrol their kids to NTU; local students from better-to-do families will rather go to another local university or overseas than going mingle with poorer peers in NTU.
True. No one cares

Tiong Kia students come here and enjoy gd life when they graduate and return to China or go US to work based on their contacts. They come here already Rich. I know SMU Indian Undergrads who spend 4K a mth just on renting an apartment to stay alone. Super shiok right?

Foreigners get NTU scholarship. Sinkies use CPF to pay for own degree at NTU.
Common sense right? Would you pay $300K for bachelor degree + lodging in NTU or UNSW?

If NTU is not free, good foreign students will not study there.

internship is important these days. Many students postpone their graduation by a year or two to work for top-notch companies as interns.

Foreign grads will gladly blow their superiors to climb the corporate ladder. It's a known fact, some even blow their own PRC prof in NTU and ended married/preg.
Should see some foreign girls in oil and gas plant wear low cut top and skirt shorter than cheer leader walk up and down in a male engineering environment where everyone wears overalls and boots.

Have seen this PRC girl every time lean into the Sinkie balding male boss almost seating into his lap in office and her promotion goes higher, her top goes lower. Cut cut Low Low

In overseas some interns don’t get paid or be intern for at least 1 year before they are hired or find a new job.

I am a Sinkie. I will pick NTU Engineering over UNSW Engineering out of NTU is better and way cheaper.

Tiong Kias are offered this after graduate, work for a number of years and get SgPR easily compared to Australia where PR status is so hard to get and Australia for Australians only mindset

The gd ones go to western countries or stay at Tsinghua where there is easily exchange with Columbia, MIT. Isn’t there a Chinese Post doc from NTU who is working as a grab delivery rider?

Normally post grad are mainly even more foreigners especially CECA at NTU, sometimes I don’t know whether I am studying my full time Masters in India or NTU

There is an online video where Bolehland Kias are interviewed and they all say it’s easier for them to enter NUS due to some lower requirement. Bye bye hardworking Sinkies

This is the strategy of buy low sell high.555

So they artificially propped up the number and mixture of foreign students to gain a higher ranking.
