ALOR GAJAH: A 51-year-old man was assaulted to death last night by members of the public after he had allegedly committed sexual harassment by exposing his private parts in public.
The man, who is married, was found dead in front of a kindergarten in Jasin Bestari, Jasin, near here, in the 7.26pm incident.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the police received a report on the incident at around 9pm.
He added preliminary investigations showed that the incident began when the man was seen exposing his private parts to the public at the parking area of a supermarket.
Members of the public, who noticed the man's behaviour, gave chase.
"The man was then chased by the crowd and fled towards Jasin Bestari.
"He was caught after a scuffle. Initially, two men assaulted him before he managed to escape into a bushy area and jumped into a river to cross it," he told reporters after launching the 2025 Melaka State Sports Council Athletics Championship at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Stadium.
Dzulkhairi said that after crossing the river, the man was caught and beaten by several other men who heard cries from the public calling for help to detain him.
