Even with regular washing, older clothing may retain traces of sweat, skin cells and body odour. Such residues accumulate over time and contribute to the musty smell. Don't forget that we live in a hot and humid environment in S'pore. Those who rely on public transport perspire more from walking to the bus stop or MRT station. Not everyone goes from home to a car and then to office where there is air-conditioning almost every step of the way.

It's your body smell. They retain a 'memory' of your smell.

It is not wise to buy dryer because we can easily dry our clothes in Singapore
It's not dry enough due to humidity. Hence the odour. Unless it's a really hot sunny day, no clouds, maybe.
Try using dryer and the smell will disappear.

You need the heat to blast the smell.

Wrong. From experience hot air clothes dryers are just a waste of money and electricity.

Drying clothes in an air-con room after washing with anti-bacteria scented detergent completely eliminates any smell, only a fragrant scent remains.

I have tried that before but I think it may overwork the AC because the AC need to work harder to get rid of the humidity

Never had any problems doing this with my AC for the past few decades.

Make sure you invest in a good AC brand like Mitsubishi Electric. If you want to install a new AC, I recommend you ask for Ah Chen to do the installation, he's very experienced and competent :

I personally don't have this problem, my clothes always smell. Maybe it's because I always use air conditioning.

My condo does not allow residents to hang laundry on poles outside, so we do so in the service yard behind the kitchen. If there are 2-3 consecutive days of rain, the clothing can develop a musty odour due to trapped moisture and mold. Sunlight helps to naturally disinfect clothes and eliminate these microbes
