My time recruits' pay was a pathetic $135.00. Must deduct $1 for community chest and $1 for the camp's barber. Actual take home pay was only $133.00.

I was lucky in that even I didn't went thru combat vocation, I leeceived corporal rank 6 mths later from my enlistment date.
So all in all I leeceived quite alot more from my peers doing clerical duty.

And at that time my parent gave me pocket money of about $80-100 per mth.

And somehow I could go cheong every weekend with that little money ($300+100=$400), some more with a motosikal.
