A credible political party aims to be the next government, by fielding at least 80% of available Parliamentary seats, so they, with their majority when won, would be able to make changes within government. There were 97 seats that was available, including walkover constituencies held by the current ruling party whereby no other opposition party contested in.

Workers Party only contested for 26 seats & lost 16 seats. Need I go on for the rest of the other opposition parties?

And INCREDIBLY, those opposition party figures claimed that based upon their personal election vote count in just the FEW constituencies they contested in, it signifies SINGAPOREAN CITIZENS sentiments????

Worse, they DARED to comment on govt's economic & even foreign policy, when they are NOT the govt nor have the numbers to make any significant change, except to collect $15,000/mth from taxpayers as MPs???

They & their supporters may be able to fool the naive, but Singaporeans are not fools.

There are not enough quality candidate to represent WP in all GRC/SMC ... if they just field any Tom Dick Harry, speak with a local beng/lian accent
Again he/she to be ridicule by the masses, laugh at & worse ... Meme created to cook them further. Any person who have standard will choose safe PAP

A true oppie party ready to takeover as the gov will need to meet these 3 very basic criterias.

1. There can only be 1 opposition party with the same vision with many members I.e as many as pap. Preferably all with solid backgrounds and profile.
2. They must be able to speak fairly well in front of a crowd.
3. They must state clearly to the people what they intend to do and change after they takeover as gov. With supportive artifacts.

The current oppies are far from meeting the above 3 main points.

By being the voices of the people in parliament will not cause any changes to the policies that gov going to make. It will only cause delays due to arguments but it will still take place eventually .
I need not elaborate more on this as everyone has their own eyes to see - what has the oppies members in parliament did for sinkies so far for the past few decades?

Therefore I agree with you that the current oppies fight for is mainly the salary.

Just to add

By simply needing to leepresent the voices of the people, we actually doesn't need to elect a oppie party to do the job, be in grc or ncmp.

You just need a commoners educated uncle (like me) to go into parliament and give pap a hard time. I can be the voices of the commoners as much as the elected oppies. Foc.

Thanks for your reply.

Realities are often painful to accept, more so for one whom lived under sheltered lives. But ultimately, one can hide under the pillow the whole night in fear or tears, but the sun will still rise the next day, to face challenges ahead & deal with realities, to survive & thrive.... or hide & starve....

Our founding fathers faced FAR worse than what any opposition figure of today who claims to be the voice of Singaporeans. They had to deal with much - England WhiteHall parliamentarians, their secret service, Malaysian racial supremacists, Maoist agents, etc. They did great & gave us our todays.

No offence meant to the newly approved & appointed Opposition Leader Mr Pritam Singh of Workers Party. What had he actually done to uplift lives over the past 5 yrs holding that appointment & earning $30,000/mth salary paid by taxpayers.

Did he managed to UNITE the various opposition party figures to challenge the incumbent?

Did he even had any meaningful manifesto that could inspire unite voters, let alone worthy candiates, to choose his party, as well as the task to challenge the entire 97 Parliamentary seats available, not on mere hot air BUT facts & figures with proven data? So much more would have to be questioned by his rabid supporters & voters.....

Fortunately, at least one opposition party DARED speak out about opposition unity - that such exists not here in Singapore, thanks to the greedy & the inept opposition party figures....

Thus, voters of Workers Party, as well as Singaporean taxpayers paying $30,000/mth for such appointment, will have to wonder why they are paying for a Jiakliaobee supposed OPPOSITION Leader & failure in Parliament....

I had spoken more than I had intended. My apologies to anyone offended.

You need not have to apologise when you are speaking the facts.

I shared exactly the same view for this as a neutral person.
I'm neither a oppie or a pap supporter.
I always live wisely with facts and a very clear unbiased mind.

Elections are just for show. Did you see any billionaires queuing to vote. They get their demands met without voting.

Any talented farkers like LHY, TCB, KJ, Dr T, etc care to close ranks with WP? Or all want to be Indian Cheefs allow Pappies to pick them off one by one?

WP represents those who do not have good representation where they live.

Changi-Pasir Ris have to put up with Desmond of SDA for example, or Sembawang need to put up with Mad Dog Chee. KNNBCCB.

There is nothing stopping one from emailing bright ideas to Pritam and co.

The sooner Sinkie goto real two parties, the better. SDP, NSP, PAR, RDU, PSP etc. should call it a day and dissolve.

On the other hand, sinkies rejected the better candidates such as Michael Tng, Eileen Chong, Andre Low, CSJ, LMW, which was very discouraging to attract real good candidates to join 在野党 (I prefer not to use opposition party).
Everyone might want to take a closer look at the PAP's back benches again and compare with the above 5 mentioned.

I believe LMW got leejected now becos of his sort of poor defensive and attacking power in the parliament.
Is not easy to leebate so many pap members alone.
But IMHO he needs to polish up his attacking skills. He needs to be more aggressive to deal with bullies.
When people are rude to him, including the speakers, he need not show any form of kindness back. He should at times tell the speakers not to interrupt while he was speaking.
The public can see those beedios de woh.
