A cyclist in Hougang was lucky to end up with no serious injuries after he was hit by a bus on Saturday (Aug. 7).
The accident occurred around 10:15am along Hougang Avenue 9, after the cyclist rode directly into the moving bus' path.
In a video posted by Facebook page SG Road Vigilante, a man could be seen walking across the road in front of a stopped SBS Transit bus 109.
After the walking man passed, the bus began pulling forward. At the same time, the cyclist began speeding across the road along the crosswalk.

The cyclist appeared to have stood up on his pedals, in an attempt to pick up speed and perhaps dash in front of the bus before it reached him.
Unfortunately for the cyclist, he did not achieve that goal and was hit by the moving bus.

Luckily, the bus was going slow enough and the driver appeared to have been quick-witted enough to hit the brakes before the bus collided with the cyclist. The bus also appears to have quickly pulled to a full stop after the collision, narrowly avoiding running over the cyclist.
Responding to Mothership's queries, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at SBS Transit Tammy Tan stated that the collision occurred when the bus was travelling straight along Hougang Avenue 9, with the green light in its favour.
Tan said that the cyclist did not sustain any serious injuries and declined to be conveyed to the hospital.

But the event has reportedly been flipped upside down over night with teams demanding the world champions and world record holders be disqualified for the drama.
Channel 7’s Matt Carmichael even reported that rumours were flying around the team had been disqualified and were protesting.
“We had heard that the Danish team would be disqualified for riding with the tape on their shins,” Carmichael said. “They were told not to ride but they rode with it any way.”
The UK media is reporting that British Cycling’s performance director Stephen Park revealed that he believes Denmark should be disqualified for the tape on their shins and undervests they wore with multiple teams launching protests overnight.
Carmichael did reveal however that Aussie Performance Director Simon Jones said “the Danes will be allowed to ride”.

Pro cyclist, Lizzy Banks shrugged off the controversy, before backflipping and suggesting Denmark would have “tested” the tape to see if it gave an advantage.
“I don’t believe that it contravenes the rules if you read the full rules as it does not change the morphology of the rider and the tape does not have a profile change of more than 1mm,” she posted on Twitter.

Around 30 cyclists were seen occupying two lanes along Jalan Bahar this morning (Sept. 5).
A video of the group was posted on ROADS.sg.

In the video, the driver can be seen heading in the same direction of the big group of cyclists.
The driver, who in the middle lane, sounded the horn at the cyclists ahead.
While most of them kept to the extreme left lane, some were also in the middle lane.
The driver eventually moved to the extreme right lane on the three-lane road.
The Land Transport Authority has certain guidelines for cycling on roads. For instance, while cycling two abreast is permitted on roads that aren't single-lane, and cyclists should always ride as close as practicable to the left-hand edge of roads.

One Facebook user pointed out instances like this make "things difficult for the cycling community."
Others also shared their frustrations about cyclists on the road.

Singapore — A video of a van attempting to overtake cyclists riding abreast on a single lane road and getting forced to share the lane is circulating online, sparking a call for consideration among road users.
The video, indicating two road offences, was shared by Facebook page ROADS.sg on Sunday (Sept 12).
The incident happened along Kranji Dam on Sunday at around 7:30 am.
At the beginning of the video, the cyclists could be seen riding along the area, which only has a single lane for road users going in one direction.

A silver van was then spotted trying to overtake the cyclists.
The double white lines on the road indicate that no overtaking was allowed.

The van’s attempt was cut short as a white lorry appeared up ahead.

“Van driver was wrong to have crossed the lane on a double white line to overtake,” noted ROADS.sg.
It added that the penalty was a fine of S$150 and four demerit points.

The caption also noted that cycling abreast on a single carriageway is illegal.
“Some might argue that this is overtaking; please just wait till the road opens up to multiple carriageway,” the post noted.
“Under the RTA (Road Traffic Act), cyclists are not allowed to ride abreast of another cyclist on single-lane roads or within bus lanes during operational hours,” said ROADS.sg, adding that the penalty includes a fine of up to S$1,000, up to three months jail or both.
The post has been shared on various social media platforms, garnering a call for consideration by cyclists, drivers and netizens alike.
Many questioned if the cyclists were aware that riding abreast on a single lane road was against the law.
“Why are cyclists riding abreast on a single carriageway in the first place?!!! I’m a rider myself. I find such entitled mentality abhorrent. Seriously, mandating BTT might be a good idea,” said Facebook user Koichirou Jtan.
Meanwhile, others noted that enforcement action is required to minimize risks to road safety.
“LTA (Land Transport Authority), please do something on single lane road. It is too dangerous to have both cyclist and driver together,” commented Facebook user Tan Chin Hwee.
“LTA and TP (Traffic Police) pls wake up and act on it before another cyclist lying on the road or under a vehicle,” added Facebook user HY Goh.
Many also highlighted that the van might have been in a hurry and had work to accomplish while the cyclists were riding for pleasure.
“He might have a delivery to run. What do you want him to do? Follow the cyclists hogging the road at 20kmh?” asked Dennis Lim.
“The poor van has got places to go and mouths to feed. Get off your precious Strava segment record and pina 5-figure high horses and use the roads with due consideration to other users,” added Facebook user Terence Swee.
“Van is probably on the way to work while the cyclists are cycling for leisure. Can understand the van driver’s angst and rush, though two wrongs don’t make a right,” said Facebook user John Wu.

Singapore — A video of a van attempting to overtake cyclists riding abreast on a single lane road and getting forced to share the lane is circulating online, sparking a call for consideration among road users.
The video, indicating two road offences, was shared by Facebook page ROADS.sg on Sunday (Sept 12).
The incident happened along Kranji Dam on Sunday at around 7:30 am.
At the beginning of the video, the cyclists could be seen riding along the area, which only has a single lane for road users going in one direction.

A silver van was then spotted trying to overtake the cyclists.
The double white lines on the road indicate that no overtaking was allowed.

The van’s attempt was cut short as a white lorry appeared up ahead.

“Van driver was wrong to have crossed the lane on a double white line to overtake,” noted ROADS.sg.
It added that the penalty was a fine of S$150 and four demerit points.

The caption also noted that cycling abreast on a single carriageway is illegal.
“Some might argue that this is overtaking; please just wait till the road opens up to multiple carriageway,” the post noted.
“Under the RTA (Road Traffic Act), cyclists are not allowed to ride abreast of another cyclist on single-lane roads or within bus lanes during operational hours,” said ROADS.sg, adding that the penalty includes a fine of up to S$1,000, up to three months jail or both.
The post has been shared on various social media platforms, garnering a call for consideration by cyclists, drivers and netizens alike.
Many questioned if the cyclists were aware that riding abreast on a single lane road was against the law.
“Why are cyclists riding abreast on a single carriageway in the first place?!!! I’m a rider myself. I find such entitled mentality abhorrent. Seriously, mandating BTT might be a good idea,” said Facebook user Koichirou Jtan.
Meanwhile, others noted that enforcement action is required to minimize risks to road safety.
“LTA (Land Transport Authority), please do something on single lane road. It is too dangerous to have both cyclist and driver together,” commented Facebook user Tan Chin Hwee.
“LTA and TP (Traffic Police) pls wake up and act on it before another cyclist lying on the road or under a vehicle,” added Facebook user HY Goh.
Many also highlighted that the van might have been in a hurry and had work to accomplish while the cyclists were riding for pleasure.
“He might have a delivery to run. What do you want him to do? Follow the cyclists hogging the road at 20kmh?” asked Dennis Lim.
“The poor van has got places to go and mouths to feed. Get off your precious Strava segment record and pina 5-figure high horses and use the roads with due consideration to other users,” added Facebook user Terence Swee.
“Van is probably on the way to work while the cyclists are cycling for leisure. Can understand the van driver’s angst and rush, though two wrongs don’t make a right,” said Facebook user John Wu.
