Herd Immunity in Sight for India’s Capital?
By Pavankumar Kamat

Jan. 29, 2021 -- The latest antibody testing data conducted in Delhi, India suggests that the nation's capital may be very close to attaining herd immunity against COVID-19.

The Delhi government has been regularly conducting antibody tests since August 2020 to assess the spread of the virus in the capital region. In the fifth and the largest survey so far, more than 28,000 samples were tested across 11 districts in Delhi between Jan. 11 and Jan. 22.

Preliminary results show that more than 60% of residents in one district in Delhi had antibodies against the coronavirus. The antibody rate in other districts more than 50%. If these findings hold true, it would imply that half of the city's 20 million people has been exposed to the virus and recovered.

Researchers believe that if 60% or more of the population develops antibodies against the coronavirus, there is a significant likelihood of achieving herd immunity. While herd immunity may help slow the spread of the virus in Delhi, it comes at a terrible price. More than 10 million people in India have contracted coronavirus and more than 154,000 have died. Delhi alone has seen more than 634,000 cases and more than 10,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Experts believe the city is nearing heard immunity because of the inability of the urban population to comply with lockdown restrictions and social distancing norms. Some believe the antibody rate in the city may increase to 70% in the coming months, party aided by vaccination.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Neeraj Nischal, MD< an associate professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, said: “It shows that a lot of asymptomatic infections did happen in the course of the pandemic, which were not reported at that time. This is our natural way of acquiring herd immunity as approximately 50% have developed antibodies against the virus."

Another sign the area is reaching herd immunity is the rapidly declining COVID-19 positivity rate, which currently stands at about 0.3 per cent. From more than 7,000 daily cases at the peak in November 2020, Delhi is now recording fewer than 200 cases per day.

If you put the death toll in perspective you'll realise just what a minor disease Covid is.

There are 1.38 Billion humans living in India. The official death toll from covid is 154,000. That's 0.01% of the total population of India.

Approx 10 million people die annually in India so after a year of Covid deaths 154,000 out of 10,000,000 are due to Covid which is 1.54% of total deaths!

It is pretty obvious that Covid was absolutely nothing it is being made out to be by big tech, big pharma and the mainstream media.

India is perhaps moving towards herd immunity as Covid-19 cases are declining and there is no need to panic over the new virus strain found in the United Kingdom because reports suggest that it not as virulent, doctors said at a webinar on Thursday.

The webinar ‘HEAL-Thy Samvaad’ was organised by the Heal Foundation to discuss the dynamics of the new strain of Covid-19 detected first in the UK.
According to the union health ministry, about 25 people in India have been diagnosed with the UK variant strain of Covid-19. All 25 persons are in physical isolation in health facilities.

Dr (Prof) Sanjay Rai, Professor of Community Medicine at AIIMS, said there is no need to panic about the new strain of Covid, it is not as virulent according to reports.
“Perhaps, we are moving towards herd immunity because in India the cases are coming down. One of the classical examples is Dharavi slum of Maharashtra. As far as the number of cases is concerned, it depends upon testing,” he said.

He also referred to the country’s strides towards development and availability of Covid-19 vaccine.

Speaking on the dynamics of the new strain of Covid-19, Dr Amitav Banerjee, Professor and Head of Community Medicine, Dr DY Patil Medical College, Pune, stressed on relying on the data produced in the country.

“As far as the new strain of Covid-19 is concerned, it is good for us Indians to follow our own data based on the emerging cases, do research and not rely on the western data and rate of occurrence there. Relying on western data might lead us in trouble as the demographic conditions of India are quite different than those of western countries,” he said.

He said the recovery rate of Covid-19 patients in India is 99 per cent vis-a-vis 97 per cent globally.

“It is nature’s way of adaptations that more lethal or virulent strains do not go far. However, less virulent strains spread wide, bringing asymptomatic and mild cases wherein herd immunity can develop faster. Therefore, in India, we need to wait and watch and be selective in terms of vaccination and there is no need to panic because of the new strain of Covid-19,” he said.

Dr Samiran Panda, Head, Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Division and Director and Scientist of ICMR-National AIDS Research Institute (NARI), said the UK virus strain has high transmissibility rate of about 60 to 70 per cent but high transmissibility rate does not necessarily mean that it has a high fatality rate too.

“Viruses always require a host to get transmitted from one person to another. Following proper Covid appropriate behaviour, we can stop SARS-CoV-2 from spreading further. A balanced symbiotic relationship gets evolved over a period of time as viruses go from an epidemic existence to an endemic one and with less virulence potential. The respiratory viruses in particular, through this process, attain relevance as seasonal outbreak causing organisms,” he said.

Dr JC Suri, Director, Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, Fortis Hospital, said the new Covid strain would be more transferable.

“As of now, we don’t have any evidence to show that it is dangerous. All the strains are also not clinically proven. And I don’t think that vaccine is going to be ineffective. Yes, it’s better to take precaution from the new strain. People should go for institutional quarantine. This variant is not virulent,” he said.

India daily deaths rapidly declining despite the fact that there has been absolutely no vaccine roll out in the country.

The best way to deal with nature is to use nature ie the body's immune system.

The world has been taken for a ride by the ruling elite who have used the pandemic to enrich themselves beyond their own wildest dreams.

The Rich Are Getting Richer During The Pandemic

In about four months’ time, there may have been irrevocable changes made to our economy, job market and wealth inequality. In its reaction to the virus outbreak, the government—whether intended or not—set up winners and losers. Certain online giants, like Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Zoom, Facebook and Netflix, were able to conduct business as usual, whereas others labeled nonessential were forced to shut down or significantly curtail their operations. The fallout includes 51 million Americans filing for unemployment benefits and marquee corporations, such as J.C. Penney, Hertz, Neiman Marcus, Pier 1, Brooks Brothers and J. Crew, filing for bankruptcy protection.

CEOs, executives and large shareholders of the “winners” made fortunes—on top of their existing fortunes. Most families don't even possess an emergency fund of three months’ savings to get them through tough times. It's been reported that people are unable to make their rent and mortgage payments, risking eviction. The extra $600 per week unemployment supplement, which recipients heavily depend upon, is set to expire July 31.

On Monday, when millions of unemployed Americans poured their cups of coffee and started searching for jobs online, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos saw his net worth grow by $13 billion. You’re not reading this wrong. Yes, it's the largest intraday jump in net worth, according to Bloomberg.

The Guardian wrote that at the height of the pandemic, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg (his net worth ballooned by about $15 billion in 2020), Warren Buffett and Larry Ellison collectively witnessed their already incredible wealth increase by $101.7 billion between March 18 and June 17.

Tesla cofounder Elon Musk goes on Joe Rogan’s podcast, drinks some whiskey, tokes on weed and professes that he doesn’t care about his “material possessions.” Musk told Rogan that his homes, planes and cars can “wear you down.” The regular-guy schtick falls flat, as he finagled a contract that has awarded him billions of dollars. Musk’s net worth has tripled over the last seven months. He’s now worth about $75 billion. Musk, as reported by Reuters, “qualified on Tuesday for a payout worth an unprecedented $2.1 billion, his second jackpot since May from the electric car maker following its massive stock surge.”

Becoming wealthy and a multibillionaire is great. It's the American way. The United States is one of the few places in the world where you can start out with nothing or immigrate from another country and become highly successful and rich. People, like Bezos, Musk, the founders of Google and Apple (as well as similar titans of industry), often offer valuable services and products that benefit consumers and make our lives easier and more productive. It's not the wealth in itself that’s troubling. The fear is that a small group of people are now controlling the lion's share of wealth, power, political connections and control, while the vast majority of the population is either just getting by or hanging on by their fingernails.

Vice reported, “Since the beginning of the pandemic, income inequality has continued to rise: while the super wealthy make even more money, a report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies found that, ‘Households in the poorest fifth—as measured by their pre-crisis income—have been hit hardest in terms of earnings, with a fall in their median household earnings of around 15%.’”

This isn't a new phenomenon and we’ve seen this play out in the past. CNN says, “We've seen this happen before, in the recovery from the 2008 economic meltdown—which, for most Americans, was never complete. Indeed, most U.S. households went into this pandemic with a lingering economic hangover from the 2008 crash. Only the top 20% of U.S. households had fully recovered the wealth they had prior to the Great Recession.” It was a different story for the uber-rich and “the wealthiest 400 billionaires in the United States—had fully recovered their wealth within three years. Within a decade, their wealth had increased over 80%.”

This lopsided economy may be the incendiary spark that, in part, created the anger, resentment and frustration, which led to the riots, looting and mayhem we saw last month and continue to witness in places, like Portland, Oregon. Maybe it's not a coincidence that we’ve all seen the emergence of “Karens” and the male equivalents, who are filled with uncontrollable hate and spew rage-fueled rants that can be viewed daily on Twitter.

The pandemic led to the creation of a new underclass of workers. These are the overlooked folks who stock shelves at Amazon, shop for our food in supermarkets, deliver packages, drive Ubers, take care of elderly residents at nursing homes and engage in an array of other gig-economy and lower-wage work. Those essential jobs place these people in dire situations, which substantially increase their health risks. Usually these are dead-end, no-growth roles that they remain stuck in.

If this trend continues, America could become a medieval, feudalistic country. We’ll have an elite oligarchy running things, supported by a coterie of top lawyers, accountants and managers. At the bottom of the pyramid will be the working class conducting all of the dirty jobs for low pay, at the cost of personal health risks.

This doesn’t mean we need to take the wealth away. Our elected leaders need to formulate smart strategies to ensure that the other 99% of Americans will have a forward path toward leading a successful life for themselves and their children.

coz nobody give a shit if they die, meanwhile they are super spreading to the rest of the world

Maybe we need to eat more Indian curry and cuisine to achieve the same result, you reckon?

CECA should not wait for vaccines
CECA should not produce vaccines
meaningless to do so if CECA is going for herd immunity

Letting nature take its course would make the pharmaceutical companies very sad.

Also, politicians are desperate to 'speed things up' with (experimental) vaccines, so their beloved economy can be revived.

“We have planned and implemented various plans and strategies to face the current challenges. The recovery of the tourism industry also depends on the success of curbing Covid-19 with its improved prospects following the availability of vaccines,” he said in a statement today.

He said the effective implementation of vaccination would be a key factor towards border opening and normalisation of domestic and international tourism activities.

Effective herd immunity can only be achieved with widespread vaccinations.

Will mudland achieve herd immunity since its infection rates are soo high?
