KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — Active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia today surpassed the 50,000 mark as 3,847 new infections were reported today.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) through its social media accounts revealed that currently there are 50,894 patients still being treated for Covid-19 nationwide.
Only four new cases were imported, with the remainder coming from local transmission involving 2,569 locals and 1,274 non-Malaysians.
A total of 12 new deaths were also reported over the last day, bringing the cumulative death toll to 857 with a mortality rate of 0.4 per cent.
The latest fatalities involved patients in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Sabah, Kelantan, and Johor, aged between 38-years-old to 84-years old.

The MOH also revealed that 1,692 more patients were cured and discharged, bringing the total number of cured patients to 186,970, or 78.3 per cent of the nationwide tally of Covid-19 cases which stands at 238,721.
MOH’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah later said that 139 patients are currently in need of respiratory assistance, with a total of 305 patients currently treated in Intensive Care Units(ICU) nationwide.
Today’s new cases were spread out throughout the country with Selangor again recording the highest number of new cases with 1,481 new infections, followed by Johor with 585 new cases, and Kuala Lumpur with 402 cases.
This was followed by Melaka(329), Sabah(233), Pulau Pinang(211), Sarawak(185), Negri Sembilan(133), Kedah(64), Kelantan(62), Terengganu(56), Pahang(48), Perak(36), Labuan(10), Federal Territory of Putrajaya(8), and Perlis with just four new cases.
Dr Noor Hisham also reported 12 more new clusters, with a total of 888 clusters detected within the country to date.
The 12 new clusters were detected in Selangor, Johor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Terengganu, with all but one involving a high-risk group while the rest were detected in the workplace.
