Why 'no' and 'yes'?
I REFER to Monday's front-page report, 'Unite to take on the best, PM tells table tennis body', which also carried a photograph of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at a People's Action Party (PAP) carnival in West Coast Park the day before.

Last year, a similar request by the Workers' Party (WP) for a cycling event in East Coast Park was turned down. The refusal for the permit to be granted was due to possibility of disturbances caused by such political events being held in open public spaces, as Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs Ho Peng Kee explained.

Why was the PAP event allowed but the WP one not? I am confused by the seemingly contradictory responses by the authorities, especially since the two events appear very similar in nature. Can the authorities please clear the air?
