KL got many good restaurants. Only problem is that a not-native don't have time to explore every nook & cranny.

Anyone tried the curry at this NOW famous McCurry & is it any good :)

McCurry wins row with McDonald's

McCurry owners P Suppiah and Kanageswary Suppiah on their legal victory

The American fast-food giant McDonald's has lost an eight-year legal battle to prevent a Malaysian restaurant calling itself McCurry.

McDonald's argued that the use of the "Mc" prefix infringed its trademark.

But the Federal Court in Kuala Lumpur ruled that there was no evidence to show McCurry was trying to pass itself off as part of the McDonald's empire.

The owner of McCurry insists its "Mc" prefix is an abbreviation for Malaysian Chicken Curry.

Long process

McDonald's, which has more than 180 outlets in Malaysia, first sued the McCurry restaurant in 2001.

A High Court ruled in favour of the international chain in 2006, but then McCurry took the case to the Court of Appeal, which overturned the ruling.

McDonald's then went down its final legal avenue, taking the case to the Federal Court.

But chief judge Arifin Zakaria said on Tuesday that the three-member panel had unanimously dismissed the application.

"We feel great that this eight-year legal battle is finally over," McCurry owner P Suppiah told reporters.

"We can now go ahead with whatever we plan to do such as opening new branches," he said.

McCurry opened for business in Kuala Lumpur in 1999, and serves Indian dishes, including fish head curry and breads including tandoori naan.

Lawyers for McDonald's told the Associated Press news agency that the company accepted the judgement.

soon they will have Kawan Fried Chicken... ha ha ha Mc Curry...scottish Indians..

dun want to step into an terrorist state to eat it's food.

This reminds me of the Eddie Murphy movie Coming To America, in which there was a little McDowell's neighborhood hamburger restaurant being hounded by McDonald's investigators. Anyway, McCurry is a typical Indian restaurant like those we see in Little India with setup and dishes completely different from McDonald's.

Singapore have a company called Citigems too. Why don't Citibank try to sue them?

macdonald lawyer got nothing better to do, in fact, they went to scotland to sue the original macdonald family and want them to remove their family name from their business. because now the name is trademark.
they think they are rich and massive, they can do anything they like.

McDonald is being unreasonable, just b'cos McCurry has a 'Mc'. They may as well go & sue all the people with the surname 'Mc'. Bo Liao.

I don't think that the McDonald's main management are so free and frivolous. I think that it's their lawyers who fear looking like too free and being retrenched, go around hunting for cases to start suing.

Actually, from the TV the curry looks damn good. Many different varieties and laid out in large heating pans. I will try them next time in KL.

Singapore should maybe sue Mac Inc for using the surfixes .

Since Singapore got the most people taking Mc .

macdonald can sue apple for calling their computer mac. oh apple rich and powerful. maybe not a good idea to sue them.

KL got many high rise buildings? need aircon to cool their environment? :D
