It is fine to use this phrase in a classroom or private meeting as a means of facilitating learning or discussion.

But when a politician uses it, it stinks to high heavens as an attempt to skirt the issue. Call them out by saying, "I don't know that's why I am asking you. You are paid more than me so you must be cleverer. Please answer the question."

To be compassionate to your enemies is to be cruel to yourself.

Which is why the security guards have been removed.
When you are on duty and wear a uniform you have to conduct yourself properly.

In Singapore if you are not on duty and are the resident or customer you can behave badly and still be served. In many cases served better than by behaving well.
