[Singapore] - "Someone comes up to you and asks you for $2 to buy food or take a bus. What do you do?"

For all it is worth.

It was in Hong Kong in mid 90s.

I was working and living there then, and paid very well.
One night in late December, I had a very good dinner with my wife and walking back with her and we were warmly dressed up.
I saw an old lady literally in rags on side of the road dragging a big bag and picking up empty drink cans. I felt very sorry for her and thought I give her a nice surprise.

I walked to her and gave her a 500 HK$ note talking to her in Cantonese why not she buy something warm and have herself a good dinner.

She looked at what I gave her in shock. Then she turned to me and handed back the money and said she did not want anything from me or from anyone else.

We looked at her in surprise and shock as she slowly walked away into that very cold night.

$2 can cover this.

Ask yourself why people ended up homeless or penniless. Yes, there are genuine cases where people suffer hardship in their lives. Like family members suffering from illness and drain all their resources away etc etc. And they are willing to seek help and admit that they are incapable of improving their lives. These people we should help. These are in the Minority.

There are majority of people who doesn't save and spend above their means. Living paycheck to paycheck. When they are unable to continue to work, then KPKB. Guess who they are?

There are also people who cannot be help, how much you give also finished. Just like the m&d, the more you give the lazier they will be - good example is Malaysia. Anyway they are lazy and useless to start with in the first place. I am afraid they can't be help.

And there are people who just need a helping hand and they are able to move forward.

So who will you help? I have my own priority for charity.

They are poor cos they don't want to work, they don't go for training and retraining.
No on will be left behind by the Govt.
Pride of PAP.
Training and retraining needs cash for sustenance for the duration. In any case, the US found that retraining does not help much. Its just that todays businesses just do not need as many people anymore.

Malays do not die of starvation like in china. The people there are so lazy they can't be bothered to look for food.
