Good for you it going to be 24hr journey. Can see many kampung/village and nature jungle/forest.
Enjoy your trip.

Got luggage. Trying to avoid extra charges. Got time to see the terrain.

you think it is the swiss alps? what terrain to see? afraid of flying say so lah.
if you buy business class ticket , you have more weight.

Direct train from Singapore to Bangkok? Where to buy ticket and board?

Thanks. Maybe a budget arline ticket is easier, faster and even cheaper.

You should try Singapore to KL first and if you cannot tahan then can take a flight from there to Bangkok.

Sg-KL flight? Ya ya...you kidding right?

Complete waste of airport tax and time. Take a bus or drive.

what? what kind of advice is that? it is air or train, stop half way to see and then decide what to do next. mind blogging.

if he decide on train, even if it is tough, he have to go on and endure, stop half way?

you do that in your life, decide on something, half way it is tough, then change direction.
like that how can.

Long ago used to do that - crowded, uncomfortable, ticket conductor or immigration fellow will come up and check passport and ask for money, luggage need to look after securely before it disappear. Better to get a partner - at least can chit-chat and mutually take care of one another. 24 hours ride - night-day-night-day. Hopefully no bandits blow up rail track in the south during Ramadan - God is fearsome - even with extremists. December - expect flood in southern Thailand. All said, price is cheap, scenery basically the same along track - trees, bushes, and occasional ricefield further north. But at least you can relax - as the train rock you twenty-four hours - except in between stops.

View these never-expect train rides and you got an idea :

Consolation - hopefully not the same now!

Take a flight. Check-in 2 hours before boarding, including preparation, waiting and taxi time is already about 3 hours. Flight time is about 1 hour to KL, enjoy it. Don't forget to bargin with the taxi drivers (unless you're very rich or generous or stupid) on your way to and fro KL airport. Me, I'd rather take a bus and sleep on it anytime.
