A suspected drug abuser from Malaysia has been arrested for attempting to bribe a Central Narcotics Bureau officer in Singapore with RM50 (S$16.40) to be let off the hook.

A suspected drug abuser from Malaysia has been arrested for attempting to bribe a Central Narcotics Bureau officer in Singapore with RM50 (S$16.40) to be let off the hook.
Bribe was made during a routine check
The incident took place on July 10 at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers were conducting a routine check on the 35-year-old male who had arrived by bus.
The male passenger, suspected of drug abuse, was subsequently referred to CNB for investigation and sent for a urine test.

A suspected drug abuser from Malaysia has been arrested for attempting to bribe a Central Narcotics Bureau officer in Singapore with RM50 (S$16.40) to be let off the hook.
Bribe was made during a routine check
The incident took place on July 10 at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers were conducting a routine check on the 35-year-old male who had arrived by bus.
The male passenger, suspected of drug abuse, was subsequently referred to CNB for investigation and sent for a urine test.
Bribe attempt
En route to the test, the suspect offered RM50 (S$16.40) to the CNB officer escorting him, asking to be released.
The officer rejected the bribe and reported the bribery attempt to his supervisor.
The case has since been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) for further investigation.
Praising the officer, CNB’s director Ng Ser Song, said: “The officers exemplify the bureau’s values of professionalism and integrity, and our zero tolerance towards corruption. Any attempts to bribe our officers will be rejected and reported.”
