S'pore's most highly educated taxi-driver

Dr Cai Ming Jie became an SMRT cabby last November after spending 16 years as a researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star).

His career switch has become a talking point online after he started a blog earlier this year. Alongside his experiences as a cabby, he takes issue with the circumstances of his departure from IMCB last May.

The China-born Dr Cai, who became a Singapore citizen, obtained a PhD in molecular biology from Stanford University in 1990.

If he is so qualified he could get another job easily. Problem is his specialisation is only good for washing test tubes.

oh a FT, fxxk him. send him back to china.

ya man, give him a break. fact is, he took up pink i/c and red passport, so dun care where he was from, he's now one of us - 3rd class citizens of s'pore!

This guy has been a PR for years since 1990. He has contributed to Singapore first as a researcher and then as a cab driver now. Why give this man stick? If you wanna f someone, f those locals who are able-bodied who prefer to remain unemployed.

Furthermore, i think we all can learn from his attitude towards life - to be flexible and humble in harsh times.

Wow that is a cruel thing to say. Give that man a break. He is already a cab driver, what more u wan ? Make him a beggar meh?

he can get convert back to china passport. and throw back the red passport to PAP.

make someone happy ...leave him alone .

This show Singapore is beyond 1st world country, where a cab driver is a Standford Phd.

That means the rest can go jump MRT.

Instead of slamming this FT, ppl shud slam the WorldCrass gahmen with their WorldClass paycheques.

When things like these happen, u wonder where the f have all the jobs gone to?

if this Dr. was a female, maybe she would become FL and become the highest educationed FL. Business must be very good.
