SINGAPORE -- Cash-strapped Jet Airways, the second-largest full-service airline in India, has suspended its flights to and from Singapore until further notice, said Changi Airport in a Facebook post on Thursday (11 April).
“Passengers are advised to contact their booking agent or the airline directly ([email protected]) for available options,” it added.
Last month, the airline suspended in operations along as many as 13 international routes till end-April. This included its Bangalore-Singapore route, which it plied twice daily.
Later that month, its founder and chairman Naresh Goyal, along with his wife Anita, stepped down from the company’s board after caving in to pressure from creditors.
Jet Airways has posted losses in nine of the past 11 years and struggled to compete with low-cost carriers, with cumulative losses bloating to about US$1.6 billion (S$2.17 billion) as of end-March last year.
The airline has grounded most of its fleet and has delayed payments to its pilots, suppliers and lessors for months. The airline’s pilots’ union said on 31 March that it will give the carrier’s new management till 14 April to clear unpaid salaries and defer the plans of a strike until then.
