he didn't work for kempeitai. to be specific he first worked as a syonan admin service (sas) analyst in a listening post on blakang mati, and he pieced together radio intercepts in morse code for reports to the 報道部 (hodobu) office at cathay building. later in 43 he worked as engrish editor for the hodobu, piecing together various radio intercepts from allied news agencies. the rooftop of the cathay building would be used as antenna placements for the radio network, and the top floor for equipment, morse code listeners and analysts. he would be up there among the malay morse code operators, collating bits and pieces from each code taker.
