After you get your bowl from the chef you bring the bowl to a special table full of condiments and add to taste. Add any amount you like no limit.

Don Mueang airport users be forewarned of traffic grid, until new bridge's up next Sept o_O

Don Mueang users warned of traffic congestion

Travellers using Don Mueang have been advised to spare additional time to go to the airport due to the construction of the bridge linking the compound.

Immigration Bureau spokesman Pol Col Cherngron Rimphadee on Tuesday advised travellers to allow more time than usual, or around three hours, to get to the airport.

The advisory came after traffic congestion on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road outside Don Mueang since the closure of the bridge on Monday for renovation. The bridge will be demolished and a new one will be built in a nearby location to end the traffic bottleneck on the area.

The new bridge will be opened to motorists in September next year.

The heavy traffic could cause passengers to miss their flights and the bureau said it will assign special immigration lanes at Don Mueang for travellers arriving late at the airport.

More officials will be deployed during peak periods and long holidays, including the New Year celebrations, he added.

Don Mueang is the hub of domestic and international flights for low-cost airlines.

Thailand to require fingerprints, face scans for SIM cards

thais-will-soon-need-face-scans-or-fingerpints-to-buy-sim-cards-1510041291308-2.jpg

BANGKOK: Face-scans or fingerprints will be needed to buy SIM cards in Thailand from next month as the kingdom tries to crack down on electronic fraud and encourage mobile banking.

The new biometric system - which follows similar requirements in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan - will begin on Dec 15, according to the telecoms regulator.

"We're entering the digital age, our money now is linked to mobile services. By doing this, trust in mobile banking or payment systems will be improved," said Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

"Some people used fake ID to register their SIM cards, which created a problem," he added, assuring users their privacy would be protected.

The face and fingerprint scans will be matched to government data linked to Thai national ID cards.

Tourists will also be required to have face-scans checked against their passport photos.

Thailand launched a pilot scheme in June in its insurgency-torn 'Deep South', where ethnic Malay rebels have used mobile phones to trigger bombs.

"After a trial in the most concerned areas of the country, people liked it, especially the security officials," Korkij Danchaivichit, the NBTC's secretary-general, told AFP.

The lack of regulation in Thailand's SIM card market was highlighted in June when police arrested three Chinese men who had managed to buy nearly 400,000 Thai SIM cards for a "click farm" operation.

The trio told officers they were hired by Chinese companies to boost "likes" for a number of products through the hundreds of smartphones they had hooked up to a computer.

Starhub has data travel for 2GB monthly @S$15, valid for multiple countries and most local networks. Pay +$5 for 3GB. Contrasts with previous rip off daily $10 only for 100MB!

Basic local SIM card is probably good for voice calls (if you're not relying on social media apps). A couple of minutes IDD to a Sg landline was a piddling <thb30 ($1.20), without the atrocious cross 2 network charges.

Recall the repeat tax break this year (boost retail etc)? Seems massage parlours in Huay Kwang were included in default shopping list :p

Revenue Department takes heat after Thailand's infamous full-service massage parlours are included on its tax-deductible shopping list.

Govt urged to drop massage parlours from tax break list

Bangkok Post

The Revenue Department has been urged to remove massage parlours from the list of goods and services qualified for a year-end tax break.

National Legislative Assembly member Wallop Tangkananurak on Thursday called on the department to review the benefits of having massage parlours on the list.

Mr Wallop, a child advocate, said including the service was immoral and the government would become a target for criticism, Spring News reported.

The shopping tax break from Saturday to Dec 3 aims to boost consumption and local businesses by encouraging people to spend. Taxpayers may deduct from their taxable incomes up to 15,000 baht of the value of goods and services they bought during the period.

Eligible goods and services are those subjected to 7% value-added tax - basically everything except farm products, meat and animal by-products, fertilisers, animal feed, newspapers, magazines, textbooks, tuition fees, medical fees and others. By this criterion, massage parlours and karaoke bars qualify.

The service made headlines in the media, including on the online community forum pantip.com.

"Don't let the 'person at home' see the receipt [issued by a massage parlour] or the tax break you'd get could be lower than your medical bill," one commentator wrote, warning of a potential family row if a husband insists on taking advantage of the scheme.

Former senator Rabeabrat Pongpanich, a social critic on family affairs, told Amarin TV that she opposed having massage parlours on the shopping list as it could lead to family conflicts between husbands and wives.

The shopping campaign was approved by the cabinet on Tuesday.

Patricia Mongkhonvanit, the deputy director-general and acting spokeswoman for the department, confirmed on Wednesday that massage parlours and karaoke shops were among the services sector to benefit from the measures.

Apart from VAT, other eligibility criteria are that the products or services must be completed or fulfilled before the programme ends on Dec 3. As a result, gift cards bought from department stores, gym membership fees or air tickets with departure dates after Dec 3 generally do not qualify.

Buyers must also ask vendors for full receipts with the buyer's name, address and ID number.
